I'll save you the trouble and just wait for it to hit redbox or dvd or whatever your preference is. I have no idea why it needed to be made? It had no real impact, the acting is weak, story was weak and the guy who played Lt. Murphy? WEAK!!!
Has ANY remake been that good lately? Watched Dredd on amazon prime the other night gah what a piece of crap. Sometimes you have to ask yourself if it's so obvious a movie is going to be crap does everyone involved just kind of have a group delusion about it or what?
Since when has Hollywood had a great remake? The reason they rehash the old crap is because they are no-talent-ass-clowns to begin with.
And I tried going in with an open mind because the director of this remake did the highly acclaimed film called Elite Squad which I haven't seen but coming from high praises from fanboys I thought this would be at least serviceable. This remake felt like a made for tv Robocop movie, just an unnecessary movie overall.
Dredd was pretty damn incredible and got good reviews. That's the only recent remake I can think of that was both warranted and better than the original. When Aronofsky left Robocop that was pretty much it.
Is sad that they made better movies 27 years ago! What happen to Rated-R movies like before! I guess Hollywood trying to milk the cash with these PG-13 movies so everybody can watch them.
I agree with you about the Karl Urban Dredd. Highly enjoyable no bull**** unwarranted story line just straight action movie with great acting by the two leads.
I will never understand why people throw away their money to go see recycled Hollywood garbage. Did anybody really think this would be worth seeing?
Dredd was as much a remake as <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/E134bWCZ6A4?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> was for <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/HlsM2_8u_mk?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Actually that one was pretty good. Aren't they remaking Jurassic Park? That should be interesting....
Padilha did direct Tropa de Elite (Elite Squad) and its sequel. They rocked. I think he also directed a documentary about Bus 174 in Rio. Also great. Why he chose to direct a new Robocop is beyond me.
The original had all that tongue - in - cheek humor that let you know it wasn't taking itself too seriously. I'm guessing the remake was extremely earnest and self important?
Dredd was more of an American remake of the The Raid than anything, but let's not forget the fact that the Stallon Judge Dredd was not a masterpiece in itself. The new Robocop movie doesn't seem to have the dark comedy that the original Robocop had. It looks just like another hollywood blockbuster (More explosions, more catchphrases, more violence) like how Terminator 3 was compared to Terminator 2.
Only remakes that have been worth seeing in recent memory have been King Kong and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Can't remember any others that haven't been average at best.
Dredd was real good b-movie post modernist fun. The original was so campy as f-ck. The only good thing was Chris Cunningham work on special makeup effects and design.
only like 90% of Americans. I agree with you, though. I feel all my friends pretty much bite on any action movie that comes out. Maybe it's out of shear boredom that the masses continually flock to the theaters. I personally find it crazy. To watch people go see movies all the time, and more so often than not be like, "It was OK.", or "It sucked." I'll be like, really? You didn't think it would before you walked in?
