http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/entertainment&id=9427043 WOODSIDE, CA - Shirley Temple, the curly-haired child star who put smiles on the faces of Depression-era moviegoers, has died. She was 85. Publicist Cheryl Kagan says Temple, known in private life as Shirley Temple Black, died surrounded by family at her home near San Francisco. A talented singer, dancer and actress, Shirley Temple was America's top box-office draw from 1935 - the year she turned 7 - until 1938. She was credited with helping save 20th Century Fox from bankruptcy with films such as "Curly Top" and "The Littlest Rebel." She retired from films at 21 and later became active in politics. She held several diplomatic posts, including ambassador to Czechoslovakia in the late 1980s.
People always bemoan the misfortune of the child stars. She was THE child actor, biggest star in the country at one point and her career didn't really survive into adulthood. And yet she never lost her mind or became addicted to anything. Managed to live a full and accomplished life.
Animal crackers in heaven's soup. Que En Paz Descanse. She was an example to all of these child actors nowadays. I wished y'all would quit the crappy trolling jokes, man. I know they're an attempt to misdirect to another similar celebrity, but it's disrespectful to someone that just passed. She's got nothing to do with The Wizard of Oz.
seriously though, too good. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/xIjobdArtiA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
There was a period in my life when I was around 4 - 6 years old I guess where everywhere I went out to eat with my parents I would order a Shirley Temple drink. I also seemed to recall I enjoyed the song she sang "On the Good Ship Lollipop" for a bit. Obviously, her trademark curls made her memorable. I suppose I must have watched a few of her child movies at some point but don't recall them specifically. But, that's about my only memories of her.

I had no idea she was still alive either. What did she do when she grew up and no one wanted her in movies anymore?
She became an ambassador, flirted with politics, speaking engagements, the usual. The thing is, her talent was unique, it went beyond typical kid cuteness, she had a real gift.
