Asik to Bobcats for MKG + Biyombo ? that would add serious D to our team, and MKG is still very young (he'll be 21 in september) and hopefully can develop a decent 3pt shot
Houston is a 3 pt shooting team. We don't have a mid range game aside from Howard. We live and die with the 3 pt %. When we shot light out last year, we summarily blew out top teams. We lost sniper like Delfino, even Patterson was a reliable stretch 4, and TD a good 3 pt guard. Now this year, our bench really sucks on 3s. We need to upgrade that pretty bad. Even Howard needs a reliable 3 pt specialist to help him play inside out. Otherwise he gets double teamed all the time. While there are many snipers out there, many don't come cheap. There are 2 PGs out there shooting at least 50 attempts 3s and leading the league in 3 pt% and they should be cheap to have. They are Jimmer Fredette and Kendal Marshal (LAL). I think both of them can play PG or small SG (Jimmer at least), and they can really complement Harden & Howard on their games. We should trade for one of them as they should not be too hard to get. Trade either Brewer, Covington or Canaan for one of them. Here is a list of 3 pt leaders (count only those with more than 50 attempts): http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/player/_/stat/3-points/sort/threePointFieldGoalPct/qualified/false
I was thinking something like that but also considered Gibson from Chicago. This is assuming Lowry was open to resign-ing
That could work. Once Feb 10th rolls around, I think CH mentioned the 2-month multiple player trade restriction on Patrick Patterson could be lifted. Chicago could get the expiring contracts of Patterson and Greg Smith for Gibson. Lin and Motiejunas could go to Toronto for Lowry.
I don't know why Millsap would be available. Atlanta can trade him in the offseason for equal value. They have no hope of tanking into a high draft pick. Likewise with Gibson; I don't see the Bulls trading him until they are sure Mirtotic can take over. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=lmh6haf Just a thought. Charlotte is probably not desperate enough to take on that much money. Even with a Rockets draft pick(s) included, I don't think the offer of clearing tons of cap space for them is enticing enough as the Raptors are notoriously bad at luring free agents.
Houston out: Asik and Motiejunas for Brooklyn out: Blatche, Teletovic, Kirilenko http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=mmaagm6
Sorry CH, didn't see your post. This is ample return to prompt ATL into trading Millsap midseason, regardless of the positional redundancy of Jones/Horford/Asik. However, I don't think that offer is anywhere near competitive enough for Lowry. The idea of adding Caroll to the Millsap trade is quite enticing. He has played extremely well this year and they have a cheap replacement readily available in Mike Scott. That would fill all the Rockets' checklists for player acquisition though. All contracts expire this year or next, pick up a solid perimeter defender in Caroll and a third "star" in Millsap. If the Rockets could, subsequent to a move with Asik, land Hawes for D-Mo and filler I would be really intrigued. I don't see the Rockets moving Asik and going into the playoffs with D-Mo as the backup 5. Can't stand to be crushed on the glass and at the rim for 8-10 minutes a game. That said, a cheap replacement like Hawes is only marginally better.
I am not sure how much Toronto can expect to get for Lowry due to his status as an upcoming unrestricted free agent. Both Toronto and whoever wants to trade for him must account for the risk that Lowry can leave them in the summer or at least would be very expensive to retain due to a competing offer. So, I am thinking a young(ish) player (Lin or Beverley) and a 1st round pick is a fairly reasonable value. Maybe Toronto can get a couple more minor things-- other smallish assets (2nd round picks, foreign players, Canaan) and some salary relief/balance (like trading Chuck Hayes and his salary to Houston in the case Lin goes) is at least close to the most that Toronto can expect in the trade market. Perhaps Houston can get Atlanta to throw Toronto something if Jones+Asik is ample value for Millsap (Schroeder? A future 1st round pick with protection?). Anyway, my point is that to whatever the gap in value is, it isn't something unbridgeable.
^ Perhaps. If they were interested in Lin than allowing them to dump salary would be feasible. However I really wonder if they would have any interest in him. If they were interested in Beverley I was having difficulty finding any configuration that allows them to include salary going our way.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ktkmhgg They can't throw much Houston's way with Beverley, but then Beverley makes little money so arguably there isn't a whole lot of need to balance the salary (as it is in the case with Lin's balloon payment).
^Still think they'd be looking to unload Hayes, Fields, or Novak in any Lowry trade. I understand that they are stuck between a rock and a hard place with Lowry, but I believe they'd rather hang on to him for the remainder of the season to perhaps make it to the second round of the playoffs (if they can finish top 6 they have a realistic chance of a first round win).
Just heard on ESPN LA Thursday February 6 the podcast Mason and Ireland show that there is a rumor that Lebron and Bosh could end up in Houston to be paired with Harden. You guys would lose Dwight Howard I believe and all of your assets it's in the first hour of the show supposedly this was the same source that told them about the big 3 coming together in Miami.
It's sounds crazy but that's why I included the source. It's a very interesting concept. I am assuming Lin Dwight parsons plus more would be gone but you are recreating the big three but with Harden instead of Wade. Cleaveland being a dumpster fire made this possible.
Bleh , forget about blowing the entire team up , just have Lebron sign as an FA .... you have a big three +1 in Parsons.
Just heard the podcast. The source said this will happen if they decide to leave Miami. Thats a big if but I think they wont win this year which could cause them to leave. This is where our d league would be bigfor us and I also think shane battier would come with them. If we start getting a bunch of lrst round picks between the deadline and the off season I could actually begin to start believing that this rumor could have some truth to it
Wow, imagine that. With this trade http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=n6mzm4d You would have the Rockets team be: Bev/Ab Harden/Garcia LJames/Casspi Bosh/Dmo Asik/G.Smith And for Miami, their team would be: Lin/Chalmers Wade/Allen Parsons/Beasley/Battier(maybe he leaves and signs with Houston) TJones/Haslem/Birdman DHoward/Oden I think we definitely get the better end of that deal and probably have to throw in some 1st and 2nd round picks; but Miami gets a great team as well, reduces salary, picks and in the east, that team still contends to go to the finals! I didn't listen to the podcast, but if no major moves are made at this trade deadline by either team, the heat don't make it to the finals, and Riley thinks the big three will break up or he wants to break them up; I could see him wanting to go this route just as much as any other. Of course the Rockets do it because it's a no brainer to get the best player in the league!
