Although I listen to very little death metal, if you cannot recognize the talent of bands like Morbid Angel and Dismembered, or even Pantera (<----who I don't consider "death" metal), then you're just not paying attention.

Its kind of like tryng to convince my mother that there are many incredibly talented rappers out there, which to a man she will dismiss as only them "talking," and having no talent at all. Whether or not you like it, you can't deny talent.

Trust me. Music was freaking parents out before Black Sabbath thought of playing in the garage... much less actually becoming a successful band.

I remember visiting my folks for a free meal (mom's a great cook) and hearing Plant belt out, "...'til tha juice runs down my leg" or something like that on the AM radio. I hid a grin and Mom hid a frown. I got lucky with my parents. Mucho cool for the times.

Anyway, everyone's taste in music is their own... there's no accounting for taste and there shouldn't be. What's juice for the goose is juice for the gander. Relish your Black Sabbath. And I'll relish all the many different sounds I treasure.

I saw Cream, as I mentioned, and they were great in concert. I agree that they were /are overrated. Dusty Baker's not nearly as good as he made himself out to be. He was very good, but so were a lot of other drummers out there at the time. I would say the same about Jack Bruce as a bassist. Clapton was a killer player back then, however. He's really mellowed out the last couple of decades. I guess he's lucky he did. He's still alive.

Great bands...all of them, but you also have to include Richard Hell in here and probably Blondie and Talking Heads since their first albums were somewhat punk and most of those artists got their start at the CGBG.

Although also probably not death metal, Sepultura is bad-ass, although I don't think they were ever very popular here in the U.S. Their old stuff is as good or almost as good as the early Metallica records in my opinion.

Yes, I agree completely. I have 4 of their albums, "Chaos A.D.", "Roots", "Beneath the Remains", and "Arise". All of those albums are good but I like the first 2 the best.

They are from Brazil and they sing all of their songs in English. Max Calaveras (sp?) was their lead singer but left after "Roots" because he got pissed at the rest of the band (which included one of his brothers) and formed I think Soulfly. Sepultura replaced him but they are not the same band anymore. Sorta like the Misfits without Danzig.:(

Yeah, and even the Beatles with their "long" hair and Elvis with his hips freaked out parents before Sabbath came along. I never said they didn't.

But as far as freaking people out as a genre, as a musical style, as for their antics, their persona, their subject matter, NO ONE touches Black Sabbath.

Elvis, the Beatles, etc, do NOT compare in that sense.

How dare you leave out the best heavy metal band of all time in my opinion Rockets2k. You cannot mention heavy metal without mentioning Metallica, my favorite band. :D

And yes I am trying my best to go to Reliant in august to see them play live.

I like most of the bands mentioned on this thread. But as far as classic rock goes, I would have to go with Pink Floyd as my favorite.

Im not really sure what it is about them but they always seem to hit me really emotionally whenever I listen to them in some enviroments.
