Yeah, no one actually believes RGIII would rape someone. Maybe Aggy does.

He's always been a thin-skinned and a bit of an egomaniac - but he's a brilliant politician and makes everyone think he's the greatest guy ever. I would guess it's a combination of being angry at being pushed out and wanting his successor to not do as well so he can look better.

On one hand, it reeks of sour grapes. On the other hand, Mack's talent evaluation has been way off the past few years as seen by our play on the field. Part of it is due to coaching up that talent, but part of it is Mack's recruiting. And when he wanted Johnny Manziel to play safety, you get the sense that he wasn't exactly evaluating the talent that well.

Everyone expected a regime change to impact recruiting negatively. While we are losing some highly rated recruits, I'm not ready to call this a sinking ship. Let Strong come in with his coaches and pick the recruits that he wants, then see how it translates to the field.

I've been calling Mack a fraud for the past 5 years. I see right through that used car salesman. Have had lots of arguments with Brando on this very bbs over the years. He's the only Mack supporter left. I think even Brando is starting to see the truth.

I kind of disagree on the talent evaulation part. There's simply no way they've had that many misses. It was a very large part coaching and environment. Yeah, you can say he missed on the last 3 Heisman's (and the 2010 and 2011 runner up in Luck)...which when you think about it, is quite amazing. But there was recognized talent coming in that turned into a whole lot of nothing. I just can't believe it was miss after miss. The coaching and the entitlement play just as much, if not more, into the crap that became the last 4 years of UT football.

Texas' new approach to football assistant coach contracts

The University of Texas is set to employ its entire football assistant coaching staff under multi-year contracts for the first time, according to terms that have been negotiated by university officials and submitted for consideration by the University of Texas System Board of Regents at its meetings this week.

Each of the nine full-time assistants to new head coach Charlie Strong would get a guaranteed two-year deal that could be renewed for an additional year, according to term sheets included in the board's meeting agenda book posted on the UT System's website.

    ...

Texas highest-paid assistant is slated to be defensive coordinator Vance Bedford, who would get $800,000 for the 2014 season – $760,000 in base salary, $30,000 for speaking appearances and $10,000 for working camps. Bedford also would be eligible for a maximum of $185,000 in bonuses if Texas wins the Big 12 championship, the national championship and he wins the Frank Broyles Award as the national assistant coach of the year.

None of Texas' assistants made more than $650,000 this past season, and none could get more than $123,500 in bonuses.

    ...

As a group, Strong's assistants are set to be guaranteed $3.84 million for 2014, a figure that is comparable to the payroll originally set for the 2013 staff. The 2013 payroll grew when defensive coordinator Manny Diaz was reassigned early in the season and replaced by Greg Robinson.

Though multi-year contracts have become common for Bowl Subdivision football assistants – especially for coordinators – since USA TODAY Sports began tracking assistant coach pay in 2009, only one Texas assistant has been employed under a contract of any kind. That was then-defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, who got a rolling one-year deal in 2009 when he also became Brown's designated successor and was given guaranteed compensation of $900,000 – which, at the time, was one of the most lucrative deals ever for a public-school assistant coach. (Muschamp left after the 2010 season to become Florida's head coach.)

Otherwise, Texas' assistants have been employed on an at-will basis, meaning they served without a fixed employment term and without assurance of compensation if fired without cause. However, Texas did honor Diaz's $650,000 annual compensation rate when it removed him as defensive coordinator and assigned him to other duties.

Under the new set of proposed agreements, if Texas fires any of the nine assistants without cause, it would owe the coach all of the base salary remaining on his contract. But if any of the assistants voluntarily terminates his deal without cause, he would owe Texas 25% of the remaining base salary, subject to the AD's and the head coach's discretion.

Assistant head coach for offense and quarterbacks coach Shawn Watson is set to be paid a total of $650,000, not including potential bonuses; offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Joe Wickline $575,000. The next-highest-paid would be assistant head coach for defense and defensive line coach Chris Rumph at $415,000.

    Teuhema brothers decommit

Apparently cited academics, which some online have wisely rephrased to indicate that they believed Strong's emphasis on education would take away from the fun and football.

What in the world suggests that? The ESPN article heavily emphasizes the exact opposite. More sucky news. You have to accept it when you change a staff. Next year will be better.

I think the implication was that the general academic standing of UT vs. LSU suggests that.

Anyway, yeah, that's bad news. The younger brother is a top 3-5 player in Texas and their cousin (also a UT commit) is also a top 20 player in Texas.

So is Charlie Strong planning on keeping any recruits this year?

From what I read elsewhere, the brothers suggested LSU was picked due to academic reasons. We all know that UT >>>> LSU in terms of education. What else could academic reasons refer to?

    I thought this was interesting.

About Coach Strong and his recruitment of Poona Ford:
    http://texas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1606492
Charlie Strong has been regarded as a very good recruiter prior to UT and this is one of the reasons why.

I'm looking forward to see how Poona Ford and Chris Nelson develop at UT under Charlie Strong.

This is a little silly. LSU is a good school and you don't know what they want to major in. I think their point had to do with how the athletic department was integrating education into their football experience and possibly the resources for the players. I'm sure Strong had more to say about education then sit in the front row and you'll run if you miss class. That seems really superficial and that isn't how you help students with classes. That's another one of the things that fans like to see but might not make the players feel comfortable. As long as you are willing to say good riddance to the guys who don't like it then I guess that's ok.

There are non-athletes who have decided to go to LSU over Texas as well. Interpreting what the brothers say as the complete opposite of what they actually said seems a little burnt orange glasses to me. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the education angle was bull**** anyway. LSU is just in a way better position with proven coaches. No one gives a **** about how a small basketball school did in a weak conference.

    Time will tell.

coming from me this might mean something, but UT-Austin branch pwn3s LSU in terms of academics. I cannot imagine anybody in their sane mind choosing LSU for academic reasons vs. UT-Austin branch.
