Wrong. Lin produces as a starter and off bench if he plays his game. Many people here argue that Lin is too similar to JH and won't produce along side JH. It has been proven wrong like last night's game and many times this season and last season. It's my honest oppinion that this narrative was created simply to justify PB starting.

I totally understand the merits of starting PB due to his defense, energy, and swagger. But I don't buy the argument at all that Lin will only play his game off bench. The trick is to find the right balance and how to get both play off ball better. We need to find that balance anyway as JH and will share the court for long periods during games anyway no matter who starts at the PG.

Once the chemistry btw Lin and JH is re-built again (I'd argue the existing chemistry was disrupted a little due to the line-up changes. The coaching staff should have sticked with Lin as starter but they went with the wrong experiment. The hindsight is always 50 50. I don't fault them too much at this point. I'd rather focus future games), the Rockets will be a more dangerous team. Think about it. Who would love to have two dynamic and aggressive playmakers take turns attacking? It'd make our offense much more unpredictable so the defense can't gear up stopping JH as you have another playmaker to worry about.

Again, it doesn't matter Lin starts or off bench, he will produce as long as he plays his game.

No video with in-game audio of that backboard dunk?

Great point. The Rockets don't have a deep rotation, so even if Lin is coming off the bench, he's still playing a lot with the likes of Harden, Howard, Parsons, Jones, etc. Maybe he gets a bit more time with Casspi and Dmo, but it's not as if it's a whole new group that he's playing with.

It's his ROLE that matters, not whether he's starting or not. In games where he has facilitated and attacked, he has shown near-all star potential. He came off the bench against the Raptors and carried the team to victory. He started against the Sixers and he hit his season high in points and assists. He started against the Spurs and played like a savvy veteran. He came off the bench against the Cavs and earned a triple double.

The only constant is the fact that he played his game, as opposed to just being a spot-up shooter, which is when he plays his worst games.

great post. you summed it all up. lin became who he is today because of attacking and as he learns to play the pg position you see elements of stockton and nash all in his game. both he and bev have something special brewing, hopefully the coaches don't mess it up.

Do we really need to go through this again - it's not really Lin whose play takes a hit when he starts - it's Parsons.

    Lin stats starter vs bench
    starter
    14.3 pts
    4.8 ast
    35.4% 3FG
    82%FT
    +/- = +2.9
    win% .708

    Bench
    12.1pts
    4.1ast
    28.9% 3FG
    76 %FT
    +/- = -.3
    win% .600

At least have something to back up the empty claims.

I remember that game, I was there. That was an incredible performance.

Anyway, good solid win. Congrats to Lin on the triple double.

    Big game against Phoenix Wednesday.

Thanks, this is interesting. The win percentage is surprising especially if you consider that Bev was out for those games when Lin started.

Bev played a good unselfish game. I don't think people should even mention the zero point issue if they watch the game. Bev could have easily score on the break away when he was ahead of Lin and yet defer the shot to Lin. Then he did a board bounce back to Harden for that thunderous dunk. He had no defender ahead of him when Lin passed him the ball and could easily score that instead of letting Harden make that thunderous dunk. Great unselfish plays by Bev and gave away his own scoring in the process. So no need to trash his great effort for zero point.

Howard, Harden, Lin, Jones, and Beverley were very essential to this wonderful victory. So what is the big fuss is all about. We won ladies and gents, so chill outttttttttttttttt.

Good win. I like how Lin was able to produce a triple double. Yet Harden was still able to score so many points. And Dwight got his dunks and showed his dominance inside.

I pictured more games going this way before the season started. But it's been a bumpy ride.

Yeah. People bash Bev for having 0 pts, but he should've had at least 4 on breakaways. He chose to pass instead though.

It was a sheer joy yesterday watching Lin & Bev play together vs the Cavs.

Beautiful D on D presurring the opponents backcourt and running amok with the steals and boards with outright energy. Its amazing the chemistry they have, one heady, the other with high energy and they rub off so well with each other.

Really wish we can see more games like this, it almost seemed deliberate this game where they had their minutes overlap much more than before.

The only surprising thing was Bieber's benching.

With that being said, i'm really hoping after the trade dateline we let the dust settle and have all our injured (physically and emotionally) players back on the same page for the playoff run.

Its kinda disheartening for a fan, tiring emotionally at times watching the team play musical chairs with assets (i mean players) and not have the kind of corporate understanding the Spurs have within the team.

I'll leave this post at that, its 17 days to Feb 20.

nobody's bashing anyone, Lin and perhaps Dmo might become essential to this team's identity. Nice to see Lin come off the bench manu like, for once. But heck I hope can get his 3s going earlier.

Am sure if he had scored only 4 points, people would still not be happy.

Not sure what number would be 'enough'.

He took 5 shots, so maybe about 6 points?
