He is not a superstar and it's doubtful he will ever be one but the point you keep dodging is he guarded Dirk well and wasn't used to stop him when Dirk went off on us, He slowed down Zach and everyone said he was the reason we won and got more DNP's after that. He has some good games and nothing has earned him more minutes until he requested to be sent to DLeague or trade him. He got 19 DNP's this year when players like Asik and Smith were out. You can argue that he didn't deserve a lot of minutes but to not use him at all especially in games were players like Aldridge, Dirk and Zach went off on us is not good player management. The fact that you can't acknowledge that McHale may have mishandled DMo's minutes at a minimum makes me think you are back in PPat mode and can not objectively hear anything about McHale. It appears you have the same problem about Morey.
We dont a spoiler big enough for that pic bro. Whoever took that pic needs to clean their camera's sensor. I see several big dust spots.
Motiejunas might have guarded specific guys well in some instances but he was and still is mistake and prone. IIRC, he committed one of the critical 3 shot fouls down the stretch last night. Also, when he "blocked" one of Dirk's 3 point attempts, the replay showed that he hit Dirk's hand (I watched Dallas feed on League Pass, don't know if Houston's feed showed it). It's not like the guy has a consistent history of being a good defender, or even good defender on specific guys, and McHale is refusing to acknowledge it. Also, the Rockets were a -7 in 20 minutes that DMo played and -9 in 11 minutes that he played in the 2 recent games vs. Memphis. The Rockets are also 9 points worse per 100 possessions with DMo on the floor as of January 26th. So he isn't exactly an elixir either overall or against Memphis specifically.
Why the hell would any of this stuff matter to a GM? If I was an owner and found out my GM didn't make a certain move simply out of spite, I would be furious.
Agreed. D-Mo has put up nice numbers these last few games, but he's still very much shaky out there. His pick&roll defense has gotten to point where he's not a liability out there, which was foreseeable -- as he he showed sign of becoming a solid pick&roll defender in Europe -- however overall he still is anything but good on D and the notion that he slowed down Dirk or Z-Bo is ... interesting. Go back and watch the tape. D-Mo is on ice skates out there and would have gotten owned had Dirk been more patient the few times the Mavs went to him. Same thing against the Grizzlies had they had a capable shooter instead of Tony Allen out there, whom the Rockets completely ignored to help D-Mo anytime Z-Bo got the ball. D-Mo is a liability when teams attack him one-on-one and the Rockets can't send help. Obviously it's nice to see him do well, but I very much doubt his recent "good" play is sustainable and I think you're kidding yourselves if you think he's a rotation player on contenting team.
Dmo looks like Bambi on defense at times. I think he has potential but a long long way to go. And my god is he laterally challenged.
Too bad for opposing GMs that Morey doesn't need anyone's assistance to become a championship team. He can make salary cap room to get a 3rd star via FA.
Ain't wrong about how the FO told fans that now we are contenders. Turns out the team turn into marshmallows when confronted by elite teams. Now the FO wants us to believe we are a 3rd star away. In 2015. Hubris
Unfortunately, the lateral movement problems aren't likely to change much. He may improve with better technique. He is pretty decent in other aspects, and a pretty good low post scorer. He does have a long, long way to go, but he is working hard. I am hopeful that he will continue with the good work.
He is a rotation player on this team and should continue to be unless we trade for someone better or Asik comes back with a vengeance, DMo is our best option at backup Center. You may not consider us a contending team but he is the best option we have right now. The thing is no one is saying he should play center over Asik or start over TJones. We are saying he is the best option we have on this current injury riddled team. Perhaps you think TJones is a better option at backup center or Casspi is a better option at PF. Well it seems McHale disagrees with you FINALLY! DMo is not some saviour for this squad but he does give us more depth off our bench. And his contribution is more on defense than offense. McHale FINALLY realizes this which is why he put DMo in end of the last 2 games. No coincidence there the better defender played down the finish in the last 2 games and we won. Yes he makes mistakes but we are better with him on the court than with TJones down the stretch at least with certain matchups. You can argue his backup PF duties on some occassions but DMo is in the rotation as a backup center and deserves to be. You can argue whether we are a contending team or not but he makes us more of a contending right now than without him. Anyone who can't see that is not really watching the games.
It is like that. Maybe because he had him in the doghouse coach didn't play him but it is like that. Watch the games and not just the stats.
Still better than Jones on PNR defense though? Jones gets lost all the damn time off screens. Dmo has really improved his rebound positioning now all he needs is a spot shot. One space on the floor he can hit >40% from.
