You could make a good case the team around love is better than dragic, but whose team has a better record.
I wish you could measure competitiveness because that is what sets Dragic apart from other players with the same skill level.
4th player in the past 6 seasons with a 30-point game in 24 minutes or fewer. (Amar'e, Melo & Dunleavy)
I don't think Morey knew Dragic would sustain his production like what he's doing. The stretch he had with the Rockets was Linsanity like. A small sample size with glimpses of greatness. Signing either player was a bit of a gamble. The difference between Goginsanity and Linsanity was the stories behind the two players. Dragic didn't have a compelling story like Lin. So Lin got a lot more media attention. Earlier this season, Lin was playing great and looked slightly better. Now Dragic has shown that he can play on a high level much more consistently.
Who cares what their team records are? The goal that summer was to put yourself in the best position to be able to land a big name. Morey's process worked and still has us in position to land another big name in 2015 (INCLUDING DRAGIC BTW). It was clear Morey said we need a PG and we are willing to do a 3 year contract. We hope Dragic will accept it. He didn't, Lin did. In retrospect, Dragic is the one who messed up. He will probably end up opting out of that player option and took less money for it. He could have played here, on a better team, for more money. Oh well.
The two teams are completely different in how they play, and how they're run. Lin and Dragic don't even have the same roles. All comparisons will be flawed.
If you want to hear a consolation, well, Dragic wouldn't be playing at that level next to Harden. Just not enough ball for all. For the same reason, Lin would be getting better stats in Phoenix with a different role. Still, it's pretty obvious who is the best player. It was then and looks even clearer now. I understand Morey's negotiation, his discipline and philosophy it is what brought here Harden plus Dwight. Still, one has to question if he didn't put too much pressure into it, if he didn't overestimated that player option considering the kind of player Goran was. Dragic has even stepped up the level he showed in Houston. I doubt Morey and the Rockets expected that. Great for Goran, congrats for him, he deserves it. Regarding Morey, probably the mistake is there, but don't consider it too severe. And personally I prefer a GM who commits mistakes via excessive discipline, than via naivety or imprudence.
And even puttin Dragic on this team, the weaknesses would be pretty much the same: - Lack of movement and playing quality against elite defense. - Misuse of Dwight Howard. - Defensive indiscipline. - Lack of experience and time playing together. - Asik issue / backup center issue. - Head coach overall level.
SUNS WIN! Behind 28 points and 7 assists from Goran Dragic, the Suns beat Indy 102-94. Suns go 4-0 on the road trip. boo boop dee boop
Lillard over Dragic for all-star is decent evidence that even those whose jobs require them to understand the game, don't really understand the game. Coaches screwed that one up big time. Lillard is a serious talent, but he's clearly second fiddle and owes that (slipping) record to LMA on a team that's benefitted from a soft schedule and zero injuries. Dragic is leading a team of castaways to the playoffs with efficiency and doggedness. Miss that dude so much.
That just shows how much being able to play through through mistakes can do for a player's development. Dragic was allowed to play through his mistakes as the starting Point Guard for the Suns last season, and he's improved himself greatly. The Suns' players roles being defined also helps too, as there isn't much overlap.
Dragic is a wayyyy better shooter though. Plus he isn't the focus of t defense I know he wouldn't be able to keep his stats inflated here, but he'd drain a lot of the open 3s Beverley and Lin missed over the season. More consistent shooter by a mile.
I really hope Dragic continues with this level of play throughout not only this season. Since Nash was his mentor and he became great in his 30s, I hope the same happens with Dragic...
Just admit it ... Morey dropped the ball on this. Even Parsons tweeted #smh when we let go of Dragic. Dragic showed in that Spurs playoff series that he could play in big-time games. Dragic > all of our PGs combined. Dragic would relieve Harden of much pressure. Dragic would run this team the way McHale wants.
Oh, and how does McHale wants? More heroball, more iso, more stagnant offense? Dragic is very good and just for that he would improve the team. What I mean is, he wouldn't solve the real problems of this team. Cause the real problems of this team are not based on lack of talent, that's my point.
I like dragic hes solid, has a high bball IQ, and has good handles. but where was all this talk last year before they got a new head coach ? what happened with the year before that when the rockets had a 94% chance to make the playoffs but couldnt buy a game at the end of the season when we needed them ? I was at all those games down the Stretch and it was a HUGE disappointment, ESPN even gave us a game on TV because of the hype and every fan had a red rockets shirt in their seat so we could rep on tv, we had playoffs in the bag.
