Just released the renderings for a new arena in downtown. Besides the fantastic exterior and massive screen, it looks like they are really trying to integrate the arena into its surroundings. Good for them. Its also very nice when your mayor happens to be a former NBA player and fights like hell to keep your team.
Props to Ranadive for trying, but this stadium doesn't change the fact that Sacramento is a bonafide dump. Have no idea why they have a NBA franchise.
I love how you can practically look in and watch the game from outside almost but I'm not liking the wavy abstract look of the exterior.
This. Sacramento is a one sport town, and they love the Kings. Only the last few years, when it was clear the Maloofs were trying to move / sell, some people started to boycot the team. Others kept showing up, just to show that Sactown is a viable NBA market. Good for them! I hope they'll have a wonderful Arena and a team that brings back memories of Arco thunder. That Adelman-coached team with Webber, Bibby, Stojakovic and Divac was one of the best passing teams I've ever seen.
There's a place for smaller market teams in major sports. Just because Sacramento isn't a destination city doesn't mean they don't show support for the Kings. It's up to the league and the owners to ensure that a place like Sacramento is viable for an NBA franchise....especially when that city has done nothing wrong in terms of attendance and support.
I don't know why but it reminds me of the BBVA Compass Stadium. It might be the awkward outside shape.
They were dead last in the NBA in attendance in 2013 - only 13.7k per game http://espn.go.com/nba/attendance/_/year/2013
Their fans brother... They love their kings. You have teams like Memphis and their a good team and some nights it seems like only half their stadium is full. Sacramento have been bad for almost 10 years now and they STILL come out and support them. One of the best fan bases in the nba in my opinion.
would be cool if they built it in a way so that the whole arena is submerged under the ground. There would be windows on top of the stadium so people could just walk over the top of a basketball game going on and watch it from above.
Just looked at the Warriors new arena. If I'm from SF i would hate that project. Aesthetics wise its nice with a gorgeous view from the arena looking out but i think putting that arena on the bay so close to the GG bridge is stupid.
