I guess you didn't read the reviews of the PS4 version of Tomb Raider. They are far from stellar.

The question is, was $20 holding you back this whole time?

    If not, don't buy it.

Just to be clear when I said any developer who look to challenge themselves and develop next gen 720p/30fps games should target xbone as their main platform, I was not talking about tomb raider or any particular game, but the xbone platform as a hole.

I was going to say the same given the wide difference in low and high frame rates for the PS4 version (I'd rather they just locked it to 30 FPS), but on closer inspection, the fact that it averages ~50 FPS must mean it rarely hits those lower numbers. Possibly some slowdown when you have close-ups of Lara's hair. In that case, the unlocked frame-rate is fine. Probably 50-60 a good percentage of the time (certainly looked that way in the bits I checked out). That's pretty good and probably similar to other "solid" 60 FPS games. In that case, it makes sense to unlock the game IMO.

Bleh, just saw XBO version apparently hit as low as 18 FPS, although that might have been a glitch with the way their data was recorded.

I had 2K14 on XBone and it was so terrible I took it back and got a refund.

So, after a full day of wedding planning and packing to move into a new house, I decided to fire up the PS3 last night and get in a game or two of NCAA '14 before hitting the sack. Well, much to my dismay, after about a split second of the fan turning on, I got the dreaded yellow light, and then flashing red light. So long story short, I'm in the market for something new now. I primarily use my console for sports games and Netflix, with the occasional romp on GTA or something. So, fellow CFers, help a brother in need out. What's my next console going to be??

Duh, PS4 is $100 cheaper, and more powerful. Spend the excess on games.
You also don't have to pay for PSN+ in order to use Netflix. You do have to pay for Xbox Live, however.

Congratulations on the new house. Security is important for every home. If someone breaks in and you do not have a brick lying around, an xbone will come in handy. It is much larger and heavier than a PS4 and you can do some serious damage with it.

Also PS4 is pretty much sold out everywhere at this point but piles of xbones can be found in any store.

The choice should be pretty clear.

Well, gotta pay for PSN+ to play games online, so it's a wash.

Get the XBone, it's more future proof. :)

Plenty of people feel that way. I hope they don't just up the resolution on PS4 versions of things to the point where the game is stuttering. If it needs to be lower-res to perform well, make it lower-res.

I'd rather Sony use their more powerful hardware to get smoother, more consistent framerates, instead of going for the higher resolution all the time. Unfortunately they'll probably go with the latter though, because it's both more easily measured and easier to pitch in the media.

It depends on the games, but the PS4 does handle resolutions up to 1080p pretty well. Its specs are skewed a bit such that it can really push a lot of pixels without too much of a problem elsewhere. It will likely be bottlenecked by CPU, raw GPU power (polygons?), AI, physics, etc., rather than how many pixels it can push out.

Generally speaking of course (and from what I can recall).

What do you mean? Shouldn't 1080P be a basic expectation from both nex gens?

He didn't say he played online, he just said he played sports game and GTA. And no, it isn't a wash...you get newer free games with PSN+ and it's cheaper than Xbox Live.
Lol, you say it's more future proof, yet the PS4 has better hardware. How does that work exactly? Are you referring to Kinect? Cus um...they keep dialing back it's involvement in the Xbox further and further.

Tell that to these dudes talking about how "future proof" their console which is having issues running games stable at 720p right now.

I make sarcastic comments only to watch the reactions....it's really fun to see the sensitivity levels around here.

It's just a video game system.

And until the ps4 does something with the hardware, it's a pointless thing to bring up. Just like a Lamborghini owner bragging about his car being able to hit 200 mph...if you've never driven 200 mph, then it shouldn't be anything to brag about. Neither system has any edge over the other at this point.

    I can stream my games.
I can remote play from any room in my house (or outside of it if I actually wanted). [side note: someone on reddit posted they took their ps4 to work, plugged it in next to them then used their vita to play the ps4 all day with no tv.]
I can recharge my controller without buying new batteries.
I can plug a microphone into my controller for audio, and I don't have to buy something proprietary.
I can download free games that are actually relevant.

I haven't driven it at 200 yet, but it's still a hell of a lot faster than your Post-Nerf Xbox One.

    How is that emotional? Lol.

Pretty sure you meant to say their credit rating. Meh, the company isn't in any danger of going out of business, and to say that their games division is doing well is an understatement. In other words it's not completely, but it's close to being irrelevant. Microsoft does have cash to buy up almost whatever developer (and/or IP rights) they like though, with all that said.

Why do you get so sensitive over a game console....a piece of plastic? It boggles my mind how grown men are so attached to a piece of plastic.

Let me be clear, I couldn't care less what console you or anyone else here buys. I just want as many people on PSN+ to shoot at as possible.
