No freaking way. Thibs and mchale are almost similar in that they play extremely short rotations. Why else would the bulls be so injury prone? Think about it.
The Bulls haven't been a contender while having Thibs as head coach. They were like Lebron's cavs. Extremely overrated. He's a good coach, but I don't think he's the answer.
You know... I wouldn't dislike him as much after tonight's game if he at least own up to some of these responsibilities.
Are you kidding me? Look at the talent on that roster and he's still squeezing out wins, took that Bulls team last year to the second round with a bunch of role players. Not to mention he can coach circles around McHale in terms of defensive philosophy and drawing up offensive plays.
Did he really need a timeout to call a simple pick and roll? Well I guess it's a step above an iso play.
Someone should make a highlight vid of McHale using his catch phrases over and over again - with smart editing and maybe a music backing track matching the pitch of his voice with chords this could be almost as good as McCain song or Palin Song vids on youtube.
They went to the conference finals and put up a fight with just one superstar. Hell they put up a fight last season with no Rose...they are still a mediocre team with no first option somehow. Thibs is one of the best coaches in the NBA and he is without a doubt the best defensive coach in the NBA.
Really? You know nothing about me or what I do. Just because I mention my passion for coaching basketball in my sig, you try to make an unfounded connection to my post. The logic is flawed. My disdain for coach McHale has nothing to do with own life. I can see how you would make such a desperate parallel, but you're flat out wrong. And, in defense of myself, I don't just coach some "14 year olds." I shouldn't waste 5 minutes responding to your salty post, but it seems like you wanted a response. So, here's an amended version. Let me first explain that all of the kids that I coach live in the slums, have no guidance at home and are considered well below the poverty threshold and even homeless. These young men are required to have at least a 3.5 gpa, do community service with ME and follow a strict code of conduct. Before you belittle my personal life, I wish you knew that I just paid one of my athlete's and their family's electric/water bill because they didn't have heat or water for the last 3 weeks. If you take basketball out of the picture, the main thing I provide for many of these boys is a positive outlet that, yes, involves playing basketball at a high-level. Also, not that it should matter, but since you attacked me: our team is a competitive central Phoenix high school that has been recognized as a powerhouse over the years. I am mentored by coach (edited for privacy in hindsight) of GCU with the sole purpose of spreading knowledge to these students, players/kids and families that I adore. I obviously don't teach/coach for the money, nor do I do it for the accolades, so I don't need praise or expect any sort of societal pedestal. What I do know is that I care for the students and kids on my team and in my community as an athletic and social advocate. And yes, I also coach an AAU team on the side because of my passion for basketball and working with underprivileged youth. I guess you wouldn't understand, man. I'm a teacher before anything else. Now, back to McHale, my opinion is just as valid as yours. You're right though: I am not an NBA or NBADL coach, however, I'm experienced enough in the game of basketball to have a rational, logical opinion, even if you disagree with it. I am definitely hard on McHale, but I'm not the first. If anything, you should value my opinion a bit more because it comes from a place of understanding. McHale had an incredible career, something I'll never have. You got me. McHale is an NBA coach, probably something I'll never get the opportunity to do. You got me on that, too. But, I'm happy with what I've accomplished as this minuscule, meaningless high school basketball coach, teacher and AAU coach that you've implied as unworthy to voice an opinion about a prominent public figure. What have you done lately besides post a chump-level comment? /rant I shouldn't spend time on toxic people. Love my fellow Rockets fans, even the ones that love McHale.
Don't know if Morey will have the balls to pull the trigger after the tragedies McHale has endured the past couple of years. He'll also receive scorn from the media for canning McHale, not something I'm sure he's prepared to deal with. But its that, or risk wasting another contending season and watch Howard get one more year closer to decline. He'd also better be prepared with a good coach to replace McHale, because I'm not sure Sampson is much better for this team.
Not sure if i posted it in this thread but the only way to get McHale fired is to not make the playoffs. If we do then hes not going anywhere
Rudy got fired while battling cancer. If the Rockets organization did that, they can give McFail the ax a year and a half after losing his daughter(sorry, but his mom dying at 86 is not a tragedy). This is about winning. If the Rockets lose in the first round, it means for all the hoopla over signing Dwight, they made no progress over the previous season. Unless Morey and Les want to send a signal to the fans and the players that just making the playoffs is satisfactory in a league where over 50% of the teams achieve that every year, they'll find a better head coach.
His responses are just...mediocre. Look, I know it sucks to lose the game, but come up with something to justify your decisions or lack thereof. I think McHale is a nice enough guy, but he is terrified t be called out. The reporters are passive-aggressively hinting about his choices and he dodges it every time. Chandler should not be going on a PnR with Dwight to end the game. Yes, he was hot from the 3, but those were on catch and shoot situations. Just because a guy is on fire from the 3 doesn't ,mean he's going to be awesome at executing a shot off the dribble. That's why we have this pretty cool guy named James Harden. His shot was off tonight, BUT James is still the BEST option at that point in the game than anyone on this team. Regardless of his shooting during the game, in that final situation, he's more than able to knock down a jumper or drive it. I don't understand why that was the chosen play, other than the obvious of Chandler shooting well from the three. So basic.
