Our defensive identity is inconsistent, like literally 23-24 other teams in the NBA. The difference is that, unlike most of those other teams, we have a defined, effective offensive identity. And of the 7 or so teams who people would say are "good" defensive teams, how many have an offensive identity that is remotely effective? 3, maybe 4? Miami, Indiana, and the Spurs are my choices (some people may put OKC in the "good defensive team" mix). Is your complaint that our team isn't perfect? Or that our coach somehow brings down our defense while simultaneously having nothing to do with uplifting the offense? We only give up 1.16 PPShot (4th best in the NBA), so obviously our problem is closer to defensive rebounding than it is to our initial defense. You don't like stats or rankings, so tell us how you feel. The idea of defense being important is mainly predicated around the idea that you can get a stop "when you need it" AKA in the playoffs during tight games. That's why sportswriters and ex-players are criticizing ANY playoff team that doesn't have that ability. Do you think people are glowing over Portland's defense? No, and it's why no one has them playing Miami/Indiana in the finals. If you were a Trailblazers fan, would you be calling for Terry Stott's head because he "can't coach defense and it is just regular season stat padding for an inflated record and it doesn't mean anything in the playoffs, etc."? How about Golden State? People kissed the Warrior's hindside during their win streak, but they are not an overly effective defensive team. Beside their 10-game win streak, they have given up 101.4 ppg (99.4ppg overall). The Warriors are 8-13 against above .500 teams. They give up 107.6 ppg in losses. How about the eye test that you want to use (since statz are teh werst)? Did you see how horrible they were defensively against us in both games this year? They prey on bottom feeders and can't stop talented offensive teams. Name me the teams that don't have glaring criticisms of them on either side of the ball. These are called the "title contenders" - and even they have their critiques (too old, not enough depth, etc.). Are you really butt hurt because we don't crack the list with the top 3-4 teams who are ultimately going to be the ones competing for the 'ship this year?
More than 300 pages and still disdain for this...Rockets employee. Has there ever been a more disliked coach on our team? I know JVG had a lot of naysayers, but I really respected his intense approach to everything. Rick had doubters more than haters, but then again, you can't criticize a man who can outcoach almost everyone regardless of his roster. Mchale is paid to be a coach. McHale has the current title of head coach. But, McHale is most certainly not qualified to be a coach in the NBA. Just like inexperienced, rusty or ineffective players, he should follow suit and go hone his craft in the NBADL. I take that back...even our Vipers coaches would Ether him off the court. Ugh...can't wait for the next coach to come in and establish an identity, flexible offense , a defensive scheme, an understanding of substitutions, an ability to call a time-out and regroup during an oppenent's 20-0 run, and more than just the clap-clap "come on guys" clap-clap approach. I would go longer, but the game is starting soon. Love ya, Rox fans.
there are no 100% guarantees in the NBA, as in anything in life. anything can happen, but being complacent and not doing anything to address obvious deficiencies just because everyone else has deficiencies as well simply increases the chances of failure
I think my favorite thing about this post is that you actually consider your coaching 14 year olds as honing your craft and you base your disdain of our coach off of your "experience" where 1-3-1 zones with an athlete on top destroy teams... Get real, our coach is more than qualified, will always have more respect and basketball knowledge than you, and will never be in the D-league (just like you).
why did you want to post up dmo? you can hear him yelling give it to dmo. shut up dude, and run a play for your team.
i still don't understand how he's our head coach. we went from JVG to Adelman to frigging McHale? dont' get me wrong, he gives great quotes to the press and seems like a cool guy but as far as coaching goes why did even get this gig in the first place? I thought Morey was all about advanced stats. Can't imagine there were any advanced stats that pointed to hiring McHale.
And you see why I started this thread years back? No plays, zero plays. We will rarely win close games with no playbook
WHERE ARE YOU AT. WHERE THE ***** ARE YOU AT YOU IDIOTS WHO THINK MCHALE IS A COMPETENT COACH. JESUS. MARY. AND JOSEPH. WHAT A POOR EXCUSE OF A 'COACH'.
We had two freaking chances to take the lead and pathetic plays were drawn up Might as well not call a timeout McHale got to go period
I caught todays game, but haven't watched many this year because I hate the way we play. I see nothing has changed..
