Yeah, I told them yesterday if things got really bad, to just take it upon themselves to make a judgement call. For the most part, they live really close to the office, so it wasn't too big of a deal. Since we're in the construction business, most of our builders weren't able to pour concrete today anyways since it's not going to get above 40 degrees, so our inspectors all have the day off. It's just us in the office that came in.

Came into work today around 9 am. Work in downtown and came in from Pasadena. 225 was closed down, so I just used back roads to get all the way to downtown.

Work in external reporting and its 10-K deadline time, so no excuses unless its the apocalypse basically.

On top of first beltway overpass going from 35 to 288, there was about four or five cars strewn across the lanes, all turned around different ways & backing up traffic. I always stay on the feeder anyway, and noticed the rest of the overpasses were blocked off after that one.

As I passed it, I saw a guy walking back to his SUV slip on the overpass ice himself. A cartoon fall, feet flying in the air, landing hard on his back. Probably the worst damage of the incident. No cars looked wrecked really, just all pointed in random directions up there. Idk why he got out, but slipping & falling wasn't the worst thing that could have happened to him. Some people were still driving really fast out there. yolo etc.

Yes...the one drawback about working from home. If I have power and wifi, I'm working.

To answer your question, no. I drive 40 miles to the woodlands at around 4:45 am daily, and I didn't want to risk the chance of an accident on such a drive. My boss said I was the last to call and said it was fine since he was heading home after a couple more calls.

It doesn't take a blizzard to shut the city down, we're just not used to driving in these conditions on "black ice".

I'm in Austin right now, so technically I went to work. At 8:00AM I drove to my client's site about a mile from my hotel, and it was a ghost town. They forgot to included me in the "we're working from home today" email. So, I went back to the hotel - looked at my already delayed flight, re-booked it for tomorrow morning at 8:00AM and worked* from the hotel.

*Really means I slept between conference calls and email replies.

I'll be in Chicago next WED-FRI, not looking forward to it. At least I have a lady-friend there.

I usually work from home on Fridays. I have what appears to be the reverse commute of Relentless... live in The Woodlands, work off of 290 and Hollister. My daughter's HS basketball team usually plays on Tuesdays and Fridays so I usually WFH on those days. Since school was canceled and the road game (A&M Consolidated) was canceled (they later rescheduled the varsity game) it was pretty noisy here. Funny how little bad weaher caused all this... my HQ offices are in PA and NJ and they must be laughing at us.
