Don't think anyone will take him with the balloon payment next season. Sure Lin has showed some brilliance but with erratic usage it's hard for teams to justify a trade for him. Honestly most teams have good pgs that work for their systems, I'm trying to think of a team that def has a worse pg than Lin and I honestly can't come up with one. I'm sure some gms value him but with soo many good pgs out there not many would want him. Ok ny could use him but they have nothing we need
Charlotte could really use Jeremy Lin. Kemba Walker is another midget shooting guard. Charlotte really doesn't have a starting point guard. We could use Ben Gordon and Brendan Haywood. That would help Charlotte afford Lin next year.
The Gordon contract is interesting, and we already know that Morey has been talking (to what extent we have no idea) to Charlotte about trades already since back in the Fall so there could be some talk of this type of deal potentially on the horizon. Since Lin's contract going out wont work in any type of deal involving Gordon, I suspect what you would probably see happen is one of either Lin or Asik going to the Bobcats, and the other player out of Lin or Asik going to a third team for essentially another smaller impact player and a pick. The idea would be to move Asik AND Lin in a 3 team deal, and get back expiring contracts which are also useful players, and picks... all the while opening up cap space for this Summer to have so freedom to be players in free agency once again. I like a deal like this one as a frame of reference to this type of scenario. Point being, the Ben Gordon contract gives Morey and Rich Cho alot to play with. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=lc65uke ^ With either multiple decent picks going back to Houston or one really good pick going back to Houston (really good pick would be coming from Atlanta with the Brooklyn picks in 2014 & 15 which are essentially swap rights... high value asset to say the least).
Charlotte would only get Lin to backup Walker and that'll probably mean trading Sessions and Sessions has been playing better then Lin. Walker is also underrated across the league he has only been improving over the past years since he has been drafted. Charlotte is completely underrated on this board lol. Those guys can actually win games just by playing defense.
I wouldn't mind getting Ben Gordon's expiring and that Detroit pick (probably as part of some 3-team trade), but I would think any team that trades for Lin would need to already have deep pockets or have a sizable population of individuals who'd pay to see him play and, therefore, make back the money it would take to pay him next year. ^This.
Rockets IN: Thaddeus Young, Samuael Dalembert Rockets OUT: Omer Asik, 2015 1st Dallas IN: Evan Turner, Spencer Hawes Dallas OUT: Samuael Dalembert, Shawn Marion, Jae Crowder, 2016 1st Philly IN: Shawn Marion, Jae Crowder, Omer Asik, 1st (15') , 1st (16') Philly OUT: Evan Turner, Thaddeus Young, Spencer Hawes
It's so bad for him, right! Geez, he's got it tough. poor guy. If only he had a real coach! Then his life would be so so so so so much better. He might have a reason to keep living!
Walker is actually overrated. Similarly to how Aaron Brooks became overrated in his option year (and Lin became overrated with the Knicks stint). Charlotte is on the analytics medicine. They know Kemba is not their long-term answer. They know he's going to be best suited coming off the bench ala J.J. Barea, Aaron Brooks, and a whole huge pile of other PGs. Ramon Sessions is Kyle Lowery with less shooting touch and bad D. His contract is expiring. I doubt he sees more than $3 million per season for the balance of his career. And they owe Ben Gordon and Haywood several million dollars to help offset the one-year cost of Lin. Lin, Brewer, and Smith words for Gordon and Haywood. I'd do that deal in a micro-second.
I like the CHA and Ben Gordon idea above. Having $$$ to spend in 2014 is a good idea. We can survey the landscape and target a player (or players) that fit H & H. Get Ben Gordon, Thaddeus Young and a end of the lottery pick in either 14 or 15 for a combination of Lin, Asik+2014 pick+Smith) is ok with me at this point. Bring in Camby or another veteran center. Howard/Camby/Motiejunas Jones/Young/Motiejunas Parsons/Casspi/Garcia Harden/Gordon Beverly/Brooks
Can Ben Gordon still play? I get it: his expiring contract is the real draw here, but if we were to do some sort of Lin-for-Gordon based trade that could potentially severely weaken us.
Sorry I didn't include this in the post above but Gordon also could hold potential to come back and be a good player for the rest of the year. He has shot 40% every year of his career other than 3 seasons. Keeping Brooks in the rotation and adding Gordon is probably better than keeping Jlin as getting most of the 1 and 2 backup minutes. I don't buy that Lin has "fixed" his shot. It still looks awkward. Love him going to the basket. Hate him taking any shot but penetration.
why do you guys want ben gordon and haywood?they're scrubs. plain and simple. if morey purely wanted salary relief, we would have already traded asik by now. asik or lin can net us more than that
Trust me Gordon on the Rockets is like have Hedo on the Rockets, if he cant get no playing time with a Coach who has been in the league for a long time, then I dont really see him helping us here.
My dude, Walker has improved in every stat category since coming in the league, he is one of the PGs who no one talks about. He is their long term PG, he has a good contract still and probably get 8-11 Million contract when his current contract is up. You dont want Haywood he hasnt played a game in about 2 years and is still recovering from Foot Surgery, and Gordon hasnt played a meaningful game since he got their from Detroit.
Sorry to repost this, but maybe it was overlooked or no one cared to respond to it. Either way here is the Trade. Statement above.... http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=mx55j5k
Haven't done this for a long time ... here we go: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=n9yl7a5 *Rockets: In: Monroe (DET), Shumpert (NY) & Udrich (NY) Out: Asik (NY), Lin (NY), 2015 1st round pick (DET), 2016 1st round pick (NY) Why? Monroe can play the 4. He is an upgrade over Jones, no doubt. (http://www.mlive.com/pistons/index.ssf/2014/01/greg_monroe_acknowledges_trade.html) Shumpert is the wing defender we need. Udrich is a solid back-up PG with defense. BTW, he also requested a trade. Line-up: PG: Beverley/Udrich/Brooks SG: Harden/Shumpert SF: Parsons/Garcia/Casspi PF: Monroe/Jones C: Howard/DMO/Smith *New York Knicks: In: Asik (HOU), Bynum (DET), Stuckey (DET), Villanueva (DET), 2016 1st round pick (HOU), 2016 1st round pick (DET) Out: Shumpert (HOU), Udrich (HOU), Chandler (DET), JR Smith (DET), Murry (DET) Why? They are a mess. Chandler called out Woodson and if they trade him, they would gain a lot of cap space. JR Smith, whatever ... Udrich wants out and they were already looking to move Shumpert. So, clear cap space ... just in case Melo resigns. Add a very decent starting C in Asik as replacement of Chandler. Add 2 draft picks and decent role players of the bench. Line-up: PG: Felton/Bynum/Prigioni SG: Stuckey/Hardaway JR. SF: Melo/Metta PF: Bargnani/Martin/Villanueva C: Asik/Stoudemire *Detroit Pistons In: Lin (HOU), Chandler (NY), Smith (NY), Murry (NY), 2015 1st round pick (HOU) Out: Monroe (HOU), Bynum (NY), Stuckey (NY), Villanueva (NY), 2016 1st round pick (NY) Why? Also a mess. They need a wing scorer, JR Smith is a gamble but who knows. They need leadership and Chandler provides that. Scary defensive frontcourt with him, Drummond and Josh Smith. Drummond can learn a lot from Chandler. Lin could be the X-factor, heck he might start over Jennings who pretty much has a bad season. Line-up: PG: Lin/Jennings/Murry SG: JR Smith/Billups/Caldwell SF: Josh Smith/JR Smith/Singler PF: Drummond/Josh Smith C: Chandler/Drummond
