http://www.nba.com/news/allnba_030506.html So the all-NBA Teams were announced today, and I found it interesting how our Yao Ming received 53 more votes (55) than the "Rookie of the Year" Amare Stoudemire (2). I suppose the real media knows who the true most valuable player is....Also, Stevie Franchise received 18 votes.
Yeah, one plays a position that is almost extinct and the other plays a position dominated by the NBA's best players.
With all fairness to Amare, the voting was by position and he had more competition. "the 122-member voting panel of writers and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada consisted of national media members and members from each of the league’s 29 teams who regularly cover the NBA. The media voted for All-NBA First, Second and Third Teams by position with points awarded on a 5-3-1 basis" BTW, anyone knows more details about this panel and the panel that voted for ROY? Who chose them in the first place?
Jermaine O'Neal is listed as center/forward. Does that mean that he could get both center and forward votes? Brad Miller is the center for the Pacers so Yao should be third team center.
Yao probably doesn't deserve 3rd team honours yet, but boy, he was close to unsetting Mash from the 3rd team (63 to 55 votes, since O'Neal could just be classified as a forward). Imagine if the Rocks had made the finals, Yao would than be ROY and in NBA third team! -G'day-
In the same way, Tracy McGrady is almost always going to make All-NBA first team because he's listed as a guard/forward. That means while guys like Kobe and Iverson can only win 2 out of the 5 first-team positions, Tmac can win 4 out of the 5. Last year, he was an All-NBA first-team forward. This year, he's an All-NBA first-team guard.
