Lin only played six games from the 76ers game (where he hit 9 3's) to the Hawks game where he got injured. Based on how he had been shooting for the past year, he probably should've broken out of that mini-slump. But he seems stuck there right now for whatever reason.
He may make more sense since he doesn't handle the ball but I still believe that Lin's ability to penetrate is more valuable, plus until the last few games his D was near what Bev was bringing.
not when he's on the court with the starters and there are at least two threads with numbers that prove
Well, that pretty much describes 95% of your posts in here. The other 5% are of you asking for stats you can use to support your own worthless opinions.
The issue isn't about a ball-dominant point guard not being a good fit. The issue is that even when Lin has the ball in his hands he doesn't do enough with it often enough. He has flashes and stretches where he plays well, but too often he is getting stymied. It would be great to have a point guard who struck fear into defenses and could take the load of off Harden, but Lin isn't that player. For whatever reason, he has struggled. People can blame McHale, injuries, his teammates, or a lack of experience / confidence. But whatever the issue is, the net result is that it isn't working for him or the team. He's stuck here for the time being. So there's not much that can be done except letting things play out and see what happens. For now, I think you start Bev and bring Lin as the primary back-up.
Lin has made the case to be our 6th man. That is where he belongs. He will help us way more as a 6th man.
The way things are going, we're going to start seeing Beverley/Brooks rotations........ I just see it coming...... Beverley's aggressiveness has been established, and Brooks' three point shooting has been more reliable than Lin's..... Lin's role on the Rockets is predicated on 3-point shooting, "aggressiveness without turnovers", and defense. The first two items were never strengths of his. And whenever he's not doing well in at least 2 of the 3 items, the 4th quarter is likely to be bench time for him. I cannot speak for others, but such a role is not a recipe for development and improvement. I personally think that if Lin were to play on a system where turnovers are tossed out the window (where he never plays timid because he doesn't have to worry about turnovers), and Lin is free to shoot anything other than a layup or three ball, only then will his game have any chance of reaching new heights. But in the mean time, Lin has been incompatible with the system here. He knows it. McHale knows it. And hopefully Morey ultimately realizes it.
Fair enough. Although I think Beverly is the better fit to compliment the starting lineup. Lin makes sense to have a spark off the bench to lead the rest of the bench and keep the team balanced. With injuries along with experimenting with lineups they have yet to be balanced whatsoever. It does not help when the rest of the bench has not stepped up at all the entire season. Casspi and Garcia have been having shooting problems. Smith and Dmo have foul trouble problems. And Asik contributing nothing when he played. I don't think when Beverly comes back the problems with be solved though.
im excited to see lin off the bench again. imo he prob he plays more free. confidence and wanting to prove himself is the name of jeremys game. off the bench he'll get more confidence cuz he'll play well trying to prove himself. or at least im hopin...lol. i think we kinda forget how well he was playin off the bench...and most importantly, how well he played with bev in the backcourt when the two were there.
jesus christ people. Lin is obviously more TALENTED than Beverley. But I firmly believe he suits the team better in a 6th man role. Lin needs as much time as possible without Harden on the court, the TEAM needs it. He needs to have the mindset to score the ball and be aggressive as hell. When he's doing that, no one can argue he isn't a very good PG. When he is submissive, not driving, lacking confidence, everythhing just goes to ****. Bev is a fantastic foil to Lin's erraticness at times, but nobody is arguing that Bev is more talented, or at least they shouldn't be. I dont doubt itd be interesting to watch Lin dominate the ball and freelance to his will, but this team is built around Harden Howard, and Lin much continue to develop his game accordingly.
Look this is very frustrating. I also thought Lin had the potential to be the clear starter. But what evidence has he shown since he's started that it is the case? Absolutely none. At best it could still go one way or the other.
good point, i think two of lin's weaknesses are confidence and stamina. Not anything specific like pnr defense, bad handles etc. There was a thread on his performance on back to backs where its obvious he was gassed and also if he exceeds 30mins a game he starts gambling on both offense and defense, not a bad thing(sometimes), but coaches seems to absolutely hate that.
Lin has been struggling lately since he's come back from his injury. It's frustrating since he was playing at borderline all-star level for his first dozen games or so. Note that his TS% is still quite high for point guard thanks to those first few weeks. At this point, I think Bev should start--if not right away, at least after a few games when he gets his wind back. AB I expect will be used when the team needs threes and he's hot. I'm not sure how many minutes Lin will get, but I hope McHale always has him on the floor when Harden is off it. His numbers on drives are good, and the team needs a penetrating, attacking guard on the floor at all times.
