I'm guessing you're a casual Rockets fan who doesn't pay attention to every game. Casspi was easily our best bench player in the Wizards and Celtics game.
wish the had given Canaan some more playing time now that Beverly is coming back. they should have tell him just to shoot 3s. Hope Covington at least gets more playing time than Canaan now that Garcia is out. And Casspi just makes some bad decision most of the times. He does slash and cut but his shooting has been so bad pure brick lately. Casspi should just sit some games out just like Garcia and come back better. He looked so great during the preseason i don't know what happened to him. I think he just wants to do too much. He should focus on shooting 3s coz thats why we got him. Parson and Casspi fake to much the pass to the middle. Idk whats up with them instead of feeding Howard or Dmo they waste time and also energy on our centers.
It's kind of weird, and this has happened on multiple occasions where I get the impression that Casspi has had a bad game, and I look at his PER (yeah, I know, often meaningless), and often, he has amongst the highest PER in the team for the game. So maybe he plays bad, but he causes the other team to play even worse. Confusing, no?
Has it, now? Are you sure? I see that before tonight's game Omri made 5 of his last 7 attempts (starting on Wizards game, Jan 11). Wouldn't you define the last 8 days as "lately"? Or does 71% qualify as "pure brick" in your book?
Ignorance is bliss, isn't it? 1. Casspi has never been (or has claimed to be) "a 3PT specialist". Why would you even think that? Have'nt you looked at his carreer stats? Though he does have one of the best corner-3 % in the league now - 50% 2. TJ was the hero, but our very short bench (3 players only) was solid tonight: The starters lineup played for 17 minutes and went +3 (43:40). If you count that together with the short 3 minute stretch of "starters with DMo instead of Jones" (towards the end of the 3rd) - We actually TRAILED -3 (47:50)! Every lineup with either Casspi and/or Brooks tonight (each of the 5 lineups that was at least 2 minutes long) extended our lead. Our leading lineup in every possible stat (per minute) was one with either Casspi or AB in it. See for yourself: http://stats.nba.com/teamLineups.html
Agree, he's really not good. IF he was an above average 3-pt shooter i could understand giving him 10-15 per night. Also he's a garbage FT shooter which is exactly what this team doesn't need.
Dude gtfo with your COF crap,I have nothing against Casspi the person,I just think he along with the rest of the bench sucks and won't bring us far in the playoffs.
Casspi game reminds me of what Ryan Bowen did for the Rockets. Casspi just needs to do all the little things that don't show up on the stats sheet.
He's much better than Ryan Bowen, but still not good enough to be a rotation player on a championship team.
You either don't watch the games or your not paying attention. Casspi's minutes have dropped to 13 a game in January and TJones has jumped to 34 per game in January. Casspi had 20 minutes against the Bucks because Cisco was out so he backed up CP25. DMo has also started getting more minutes averaging 16 per game in January.
Casspi and Garcia are both 9th men on a decent team - unfortunately they play as 7th or 8th men here. DD
This pretty much sums it up. These 2 guys weren't getting any minutes on their previous teams (sac, cle)......now i can see why. We really need a stronger bench in order to compete at a high level for 48 min.
Notes about Casspi's 3PT shooting: ★ Omri doesn't take that many 3s this year (This was only the 4th time in 41 games that he attempted more than 5 a game - and only the 2nd time in the last 33 games). He was probably told to take more of them tonight b/c of Cisco's absence. ★ If you exclude tonight's game he's been shooting well in the last few weeks (Since Christmas or so). From Dec 26 to Jan 17 (12 games) he was 9/22 - 41% for 3PT. As a funny fact, just for laughs (I wouldn't dream of really comparing!) - check out the 3PT% of two 3PT legends - Ray Allen & Stephen Curry - in the same period: - Allen was 6/39 - 15%!!! (He's not himself this year) - Curry was 34/100 - 34% (100 attempts! He shoots so many of them!) (They also didn't do much better tonight... 1/5 and 2/9). I guess shooting slumps happen even to the best... (And Casspi is not really one of the best in shooting 3PTs ) ★ There is one angle of 3PT shooting in which Casspi seems to excel (I never noticed it, but the shot charts are clear) - He made 50% of his corner-3 shots. Strangely, however, he takes very few such shots - much less than top-of-the-key 3s.
Agree with you.. he is doing a great job in Jan.. The month of Jan he is shooting 44%, the last 10 games 43%, he gets about 3 3pters a game. I dont think he is doing horrible lately.. in dec yes, but he is active and cuts well. The cutting 4/3 is what dwight needs to pass out or the camping 3pter. These fan's expect way too much - for the price tag he is getting plaid and how active he is, he isnt bad. Compare him to Steve Novak - he isn't all that bad. Novak playes less than 10 min a game for the Raptors but shoots better precentage. This just means Novak is a very situational type player but he is getting paid way more than Casspi.....
He's really not getting much PT, over the last 12 games games if you take away the first OKC blowout, he's only getting 13 MPG. Same with Garcia, he's only getting 15 MPG if you take away one outlier. It seems the Casspi at the 4 experiment has been largely eliminated in favor of D-mo or Smith. McHale and Morey know we need better shooters, or equal shooters that play better D, but these guys are all we got at the moment. I can almost guarantee we acquire a wing at the trade deadline.
Casspi and Garcia are career bench players and there's a reason for it. So they're going to have their ups and downs (apparently more downs). Cheap pick ups for fhe Rockets but something needs to be done. Hopefully the rookie can get some time.
Guys without playoff experience are streaky. Casspi needs to get better every game and get some playoff experience. He should stop making delusional decisions on the court. If the rockets peak in the playoffs all will be forgiven. It's the regular season make your mistakes in the regular season and not the playoffs.
I really think this very thread is a perfect example whats wrong with so many posters on this forum.. Poster A questions why a player is getting playing time. Poster B, C, D etc. bash the player and agree with the OP. Poster E however pulls out some data and stats which clearly show, that the team as a whole indeed plays better with this player, despite all the eye tests and mumbling of all the previous posters (in fact the data even shows that his shooting isn't even bad at all over the last week orso). Most of the posters after that completely ignore this and continue their bashing of the player and one or two even attack poster E for pulling out the data and stats and very eloquently answer them by saying 'stop your PlayerOFandom' regardless of what your saying I stay by my point!! Well nothing to add but to say thanks @ Poster E (The Jabberwock) you are one of the few, who really try to look rationally at things here (btw I really don't think him posting here has nothing to do with being a fan of Casspi..nor does mine)
