Maybe you and your cohorts can put redefining bigotry on your political agenda. Much in the same way your like has tried to redefine what this country is really about in some weirdo battle for the soul of America. Then you can once again rightly claim to be the only "real" Americans.
Can you just admit you don't like homosexuals? There's really no other logical reason for using either the courts or the ballot box to deny them something you claim for yourself (federal protections and benefits under marriage). Despite being a minority, we tend to look out for those people in America. Since the 1960s, we've tried to make sure the law isn't used to discriminate against people because of who they inherently are. Unless you still cling to the idea that homosexuality is a choice. Why would somebody choose to be berated their entire lives by people who can't stand them? That's one of the stranger segments of masochism I've heard of, if that's the case. But, in all likelihood, you just don't like them. Disagree with gay marriage on religious grounds? Don't marry them in your church! That's perfectly fine. But, so long as the state rewards heterosexual couples for marriage when it comes to taxes, property, etc., while denying that equal protection to gays because of who they are, it undermines the legitimacy of our equal system.
It would be someone who favors denying one group the same rights and privileges allowed another group based on purely external factors. So someone who doesn't want to allow some consenting adults the same rights as other consenting adults have based on the difference of sexual preference would be bigoted.
Natives make up around 0.8% of the population in America, by your logic their issues and rights should be swept under the rug so they don't "clog up the courts". And you are asking why you are being called a bigot.
It makes plenty of sense. Republicans redefining terms for political gain is the latest and greatest. A bigot is what you sound like.
"The great danger is, that the majority may not sufficiently respect the rights of the minority." James Madison
great job by Judge Kern out of the district court for protecting and upholding the US Constitution and the equal Constitutional rights of same sex couples who wish to marry.
I don't when those rights discriminate. Federal law trumps state law. It's the way the good ol' USA was set up.
