If Mo Cheeks is available they have to consider it. He did a outstanding job this past season and he knows how to handle big egos. I love Rudy T but Mo Cheeks is a perfect replacement for this team. But theres no way hes getting out of Portland they'd be crazy not to keep this guy.
Do you know, or have a sense, about: 1 If there has been a decision on coach etc, when might it be revealed? 2 Is there a reasonable chance that if RT is still HC that NBA veteran assistants will be brought in with real responsibility? 3 Are they going to make a real effort to dispose of the large (bench) contracts, as it would appear Cato should have value (to Knicks? to Bucks? to Magic? to Heat?), Rice should have value, and either/both to help 'dump' contracts of MoT and/or Mooch. 4 Is SF to the 2 'etched in stone' and therefore Cat for sure gone? Thanks. Enquiring minds want to know.
i'm not real wild about silas either. i can't put my finger on what it is, but i'm just not real comfortable with him, yet. when i look at him from a basketball perspective, i have to give him credit for establishing roles with his players; and it seems his players accept those roles. and i have to credit him for finding a way to blend baron davis' and jamal mashburns skills offensively. but when i think of silas and the rockets, specifically his ability to get this team to the next level, i just don't get a good feeling. i guess it's because i believe this team needs a coach who is truly unique and creative offensively...and silas has not shown that ability...yet.
Ditto. I'd like to know what exactly caused Les to change his mind about replacing Rudy. If he had every intention of forcing the guy out and 2 1/2 weeks later is backtracking, something must've happened to cause this. I always assumed Rudy would come back, even though I've been hoping Les would've seen the light by now and canned him. But the one thing I still don't get is why there's been no official announcement yet regarding Rudy's return. Remember when Seattle got knocked out of the 1st round in '95 for the 2nd straight year? Everyone assumed George Karl's ass was about to get run, but no more than 2 days later the team said he wasn't going anywhere. So what gives? Is Les waiting til the cancer treatments are done so his health is no longer an issue?
If that's their big plan on how to improve the team in the offseason then it looks like it'll be the same old **** next year. "We're going to run more" "We're going to have more motion" "We're going to concentrate on defense" yah, sure.
How about we get one of those coaches kissing the coeds or going to titty bars. At least that way, we can get even more of players' coach than Rudy.
Silas! Silas! Silas! The Hornets overacheived all year given that Mash and Baron were hurt throughout the year. My first choice would be Van Gundy, but Silas would be fine with me too.
Bringing veterans free agents or not, do you think anyone that they bringing in will flourish in this system. Let look at a few names that the Rockets have either sign as a free agent or acquire via trade over the past few years. Barkley, Pippen, Taylor, S. Anderson, G. Rice, Cato, Walt Williams, Carlos Roger, James Posey. Did any of this player did better in the Rockets system than they did with their previous team? Did any of them brought Houston further in the playoff? I am convincing that the problem is with the system. Unless Houston change their system, I don't see them improve that much by bringing in some veterans players. Rudy need to change his system. Otherwise whoever they bring in will have a good chance of turning out like all the previous players that we bring in. If Les is using Rudy to recruit the free agents then there is a good chance that his ball club will not be much better with the new free agents unless the system is also change.
Agreed. Whoever the Rockets bring in will just catch the iso, iso, virus and degenerate as players. Look at Yao for example, in the beginning of the year, he was passing and as the season went on, he caught the iso fever.
disagree about Yao and Iso... - First, he was catching ALL KINDS OF FLAK for not being more aggressive offensively. So, when he finally started being a little more selfish (a mere fraction by comparison to our backcourt punks) then suddenly he is guilty of ISO? I agree totally that the problem is WITH THE SYSTEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that means the problem is WITH RUDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The ONLY time that Rudy ever demonstrated a willingness to do ANYTHING different was during that stretch when Dream had his eye crushed by a Bill Cartwright elbow and was out for more than two months. And I believe that preceded the championship years... Since then, Rudy's lack of offensive creativity has been simultaneously stunning and sickening. I hope he gets well, but I also hope that he NEVER coaches a Rox game again!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah - the Post is like tabloid, very sensationalist, but sometimes these guys do get the scoop. They're all well diggers from the get go. Get the story whatever it takes, forget the glory, know no shame. I hope Rudy enjoys his European vacation, and if he does go upstairs, they treat him with respect and regard. I personally don't see anyone better among the fired and/or available ranks. How many more days of this idol speculation?
