In the last 100 years, 2 governors of Texas were born on foreign soil the rest of course were born in Texas. The first of the two, W. Lee O'Daniel, was born in Ohio in 1890. In 1939 he was elected the 39th governor of Texas and used that office to get himself elected to the US Senate August 4, 1941. Four months later, pearl harbor. The second was born in Connecticut. He was elected the 46th governor of Texas and used that office to get himself elected to the US Presidency. Spoiler The trend is clear, keeping the tradition of native born Texas Governors isn't only good for Texas, it's good for the world.
More importantly, the OP opens "in the last 100 years...." Sam Houston served 150ish years ago. Sam Houston served as President and later Governor.
During the formative years of Texas, many Governors were born outside of it's borders. James Pinckney Henderson, the first governor of Texas, was born in North Carolina. But in the last 21 Governors, only two are not native Texans. James E. "Pa" Ferguson, whose wife was the first woman Governor of Texas, he was succeeded by William P. Hobby (born in Texas) but preceded by Oscar Branch Colquitt. Oscar Branch Colquitt was not born in Texas and is the third foreign born governor working backwards. During his tenure a little thing call World War I broke out.
