For this reason, the Jews frown upon Jewish women who do not marry a Jewish man. A Jewish man can marry non-Jewish women, but the kid will not be considered Jewish (until later). On the other hand, if only the father is Jewish, then the child is not considered Jewish (except for reform Judaism, where the mother or father can be Jewish).
