So are you suggesting he would get more? Because he can definitely get more. I was suggesting he would take that to be in a FINALS CONTENDING TEAM If not, he will get paid 7-9mil a year depending on playoff potential team...
Dude... Lin is NOT a scrub. He is NOT going to be getting paid scrub money. The $8.5M cap hit is not a bad number at all for a player like Lin. The $15M out of pocket however is a lot for many teams to swallow. I personally doubt Lin will see another annual paycheck that size unless his court vision of scoring abilities take a huge leap. He could prove me wrong of course. I've learned to never underestimate the ability of humans to defy odds.
My post was wrong, I didn't realize that the average pg salary in the NBA was that high. After looking at it, I think around 7 to 8 million would be a fair offer. I also think he would stay if he's the starter, I don't know if he would want to stay to backup Bev. I think it's completely ridiculous that he comes off of the bench in the first place. Everybody (even people who don't think Lin should be the starter) has seen that the Rockets are at their very best when they are pushing the ball, and the times when they have played at their best this year has been when Lin was in the game with the starters.
Yea- Barkley said it best- his mama had him 20 years too early. He would be making mad money now! (Though I'm sure he's doing just fine as it is). Lol
Lin will be in his prime years, so why would he not take the most money offered to him.BY MOST MONEY, i mean including off court revenue. That means he would take Less money to play in NY, LA, GS or any large Asian markets vs a Milwaukee, Cleveland situation. There are not too many Lebron, Bosh, Wade types that will take less money to play together. The other players that took less were guys outside their prime chasing a ring eg RayRay or guys that have been together for a long time eg Parker, Manu. He's a prof basketball player, why blame him for taking the bucks, bucks mean respect.
houston has no real intention to try and keep lin, the salary cap space has far better uses. So unless we can swing a trade somewhere along the lines where a birds right deal comes into play, highly doubtful. As for how much he's worth? probably about jamal crawford money (~$5m) to a contender, 7m or so to some ****ty franchise looking to win 35 games, we were that ****ty franchise, lol.
8M per yr is the line to seperate top pgs from average pgs. George Hill, Jeff Teague, Brandon Jennings, Mike Conley, all at 8M per yr. Jrue Holiday is the next level, 11M. I doubt Lin would take anything less than 7M, Jose Calderon is making 7M+
on your first statement, do you have sources on this? cause so far from what I have been reading, rockets are still interested in keeping him, specially if they can re-sign him on discount, unless they can really get a significant upgrade...
Calderon is making 7m$ ~ Lin is far superior to Calderon. I say Lin will get an offer at 8-9m$ a year. A more desperate team will offer 10m$ or more
People seriously needly to educate themselves on the economics of the game instead of just throwing around numbers that feel right.
Cyber, Doc, different people on this board who have spoken to people in the organisation, have all said Aldridge at the top of the list, there is an indication that Aldridge has even told people he wants to play for Houston. So unless we can pull off a trade, Lin's bird rights will need to be waived (and yeah, he's not signing for the room exception, lol), couple that with the amount of times "tried to trade him" pops up. Yeah they might look at keeping him if they strike out on every other front, but once you're plan D, calling that interested is a little loose.
Morey is not going to pay Beverly $8M - $10M a year and Lin the same!! One is going to have to go. Both are good guards, not great. I think they will keep Beverly because of his lock down defense.
Bev won't need to be paid that much, how many teams have a ball dominant non point guard of high enough calibre to warrant sacrificing that spot to a d and game manager? Miami and us? No point bidding against yourself
LOL easy on the bold font... if you look at the current market, defensive guards with 3pt shot are only paid 3-5 mill max does not matter if they are a lock down defender or not. however the league is paying scoring\play making PG on average 8-10 mill... this is why if the rockets are smart, and if lin's contract expires and he is still a rocket... the organization should offer lin a fair deal before anyone else offers him a dumb contract... what is a fair deal? I think 6m for 3 years is fair...
No one really plays lockdown defense in the nba any more, maybe Lebron James in stretches, but that's about it. Most of the better perimeter defenders, like George, Iggy, and yeah Bev are more captain Swipealot than lockdown.
