I thought it was VERY effective. This very appropriate because too many start smoking at a young age. Smoking is LEARNED. All adults know it is bad for them, yet continue to do it. "Do as I say, not as I do". If you want to prevent youngster from smoking, adults have to set the example.
I agree, it is LEARNED from others. Crazy thing is sometimes I forget there are people that still smoke. Growing up, I was always around smokers..even in college. But I grew up very poor and hung out with hippies in college and I thought it was extremely normal. Now, because of where I work and where my wife teaches - most of the people we are around are upper middle class or upper class (even though we're middle-middle class) and none of them smoke. Even most of the bars and restaurants in the area are non-smoking establishments. I never see people smoking anymore, and I hope my children don't either. Luckily they go to school in the district where my wife teaches which is a high-income area - so hopefully they won't be nearly as exposed to it as I was growing up.
Yeah, it's rare to see smokers in certain demographics now. I grew up in the standard upper middle class area, and no one smoked except the kids who were junkies. Even most of the potheads didn't smoke cigarettes. It wasn't until college that I started running into smokers. Pretty much all the international students smoke.

I'm sure many of the smokers who are most affected by these ARE the ones who made the 'decisions' at an early age. This ad reminds them of seeing their own poor decision from an adult perspective.
No it doesn't. It reminds people that kids don't have the mental capacity to fully understand the consequences. And smoking is not a class issue to others in this thread who think it is. Go to nice bar and watch them smoke it up. Should I even bring up those vapor cigs?
Smoking cigarettes is stupid. Plain and simple. There is not one thing anyone can say about it to make it not be stupid.
In America yes, the upper class smoke less. In other countries, not so much. http://www.gallup.com/poll/105550/among-americans-smoking-decreases-income-increases.aspx from the article: Among Americans, Smoking Decreases as Income Increases Among those making $6,000 to $11,999 per year, 34% say they smoke, while only 13% in the top two income brackets (those with incomes of at least $90,000 per year) say the same -- a 21 percentage-point gap. .
yup. i'm an 86er and remember seeing that all the time. i almost remembered it word for word. i remember thinking, wow, what a cool kid. it was actually mac. hahaha.
I just started to quit smoking as of Monday. I started about 6 or so months ago. I bought a blu e-cigarette to help me taper off, and today I havent touched it (trying to cut out the nicotine completely). Obviously I havent smoked for very long, but I just got tired of hiding it from my family and always trying to mask the smell. I think I am giving up on Hookah as well. My lungs just cant handle it as much as they used to. On Topic, good commercial, very effective if you ask me.
Don't smoke cigarettes, but I will state that I do enjoy a cigar every now and then. Those things are amazing.
Did you seriously use the incomes with the biggest gap? The percentages are significant in most income ranges.
