I think they prefer them to dress how is familiar. Thus, if laws are constructed in such a way that forces one particular fashion, the "preference" will be that because it's familiar (and legal).

Each generation chips away at socially/religiously conservative viewpoints (socially, humans tend towards liberal over time), so eventually these will all trend towards the right... unless some violent overthrow happens that forces it back to the left, or the elder government decides kids are gettin' too rowdy. Without those factors, a country will inevitably become more liberal about these sorts of things, I think. As as the laws become more liberal about it, so will people's opinion... because the more liberal version will become more familiar.

Well, we should also keep in mind that in a number of these countries people answer these question in the way which would get them least into trouble.

No one can explain number one, because number one is inexplicable. Most Muslims would have a problem with both number one and number two, but guess who doesn't? Saudis. Surprise, surprise.

I also find it hilarious that Pakistan approves of number two, but doesn't approve of number six. I would be willing to bet money that you would find more number sixes in Pakistan than number twos. It probably wouldn't even be close. Pakistanis are just trying to look pious with their choices.

No love for number five. That's what Iranian women are forced to wear by law (as in, the most liberal option they have).

Ahh "dated" a number of Arab women, never minded the excessive dress, always made foreplay better.. Kind of like a nice big gift with a bow on it on Christmas morning. Always surprised how "willing" Muslim women are to adventure and explore with foreign men... Never catch me complaining.

I agree. There are many number 6s in Karachi (southern Pakistan), but towards the northwest and west the whole area is being invaded by extremist/far-right Islam. Sadly, Pakistan before the 80s was far more secular, and #6 and #5 would have dominated the polls. The same trend is happening in many Islamic countries.

Is that just hair on no. 6?

So only 4 % of median Arabs say that a woman may appear in public without some crap on her head?

    So ass-backwards...r****ded.

Amazing that someone who calls himself AroundTheWorld would be incapable of understanding that not all cultures are the same. I would think you would realize that just because you don't understand something, that doesn't make it "r****ded" or "ass-backwards"

Why is #5 so unpopular? It covers as much as #4. But a couple of countries prefer both #4 and #6.

That befuddled me as well. As I stated above, number five is very popular among women in Iran (particularly younger, more fashionable women). However, it covers considerably less hair than number four and is generally looser. It can be viewed as an actual fashion, really, rather than a strictly religious garment.
