If that happens, he doesn't deserve a cent.

I just wish (if he were fully healthy) that he'd just come back and go hard and accept that he's here for the long run.OR He needs to showcase his talent if he wants out. It's difficult to watch this as a fan and I can only imagine as a team mate, just overall difficult and frustrating. This is hard for us as a team, because we do need him. It seems though he dosen't need us...:(

A little late of a reply but no I would not have done what Asik had done, nor do I hate Asik, I just think he got bad advice on how to handle the situation and needs to realize that he has the best chance in his career at this very moment to make a run, whatever team he goes to will not be a title contender with him at C, so he needs to get his ass on the floor and play backup and maybe, just maybe he gets a ring. Now I know people turn their chins up at the ring statement but its true, this is his best chance, he needs to realize that.

His agent told him bad advice, he fired his agent, now he needs to get out there and help his team, they need him, and then after the season be on your merry way because you will be a starter but you will lose a lot, and then wish you were on a winning team.

I think it was his ego that was swelling. Whiny millionaires with bruised egos. Queue up the "Tracks of My Tears".

First of all, Asik would probably laugh at the ring statement. the Roxs are not winning a ring this year. Harden is still immature; we have a huge hole at the 4 position and of course, we've still got McSuccess doing his thing (whatever that might be). So the ring argument is a no go.
More importantly, why should Asik sacrifice himself for the team? Why should he jeopardize his next big contract for Morey, a GM known for his cold-blooded treatment of players as mere pawns that can be cast away as soon as the opportunity presents itself? I surmise that this very public perception of players as mere "assets" tends to reduce players' affiliation with the organization and enhance a mercenary attitude of "what's in for me" instead of "what's best for both of us?". Morey is now reaping what he has sowed.

At this Point I think Asik would love it if the Rox could release or amnesty him, cause there would be still A ton of Teams interested in him (Portland,OKC,Miami,Dallas,Atlanta,Boston NOP would love to have him)
Analyatics have shown he is worth a ton and I think he and his Agent know this too,he could easily get a 9 or 10 Million Deal.

    Also agree with andersongo.

The day Assik is flushed will be one of my happiest as a Rockets' fan. And I hope his behavior cost him $$$ down the road. Do you really want to give this guy a ten million a year max length contract when he's shown that he will act like a three year old if he doesn't get his way?

To say its a case of him not getting his way is an unfair portrayal. The Rockets told him he would be the starter when they signed him and that they wouldn't sign a starter above him.

Now it's not that the rockets can't trade him, they just don't like what they'll get in return. So you want him to sacrifice, and stay as a backup to help to team win and build his trade value. But what if Morey decides to keep him as a backup for another two years in the hope of chasing a ring? He has to sacrifice his own career in the process? At least that's how he sees it. The rockets want to do what's best for the, and Asik wants what's best for him.

Why should he allow himself to be used as Morey's pawn?

    Good message to the team.

You guys go work your buts off for 40+ minutes a night and this dude can sit at home

    and collect millions.

Keep busting your but while no help comes either.

Because he's being paid eight million dollars. Because no where in his contract is a guarantee that he would remain a starter. Because he's hurting his teammates. And because acting like a three year old actually makes it more difficult to trade him, so he's actually working against his own interest by doing what he's doing. He's literally hurting himself more than the team.

It might not be written but if that was what he was promised you can't be surprised if he isn't going to roll over like a good boy and do what he is told. And he isn't refusing to play is he? He's 'injured' just like it was never written in his contract that he would be a starter. If you don't honour your word and treat people like pieces then this is what you get.

It's not difficult to trade him. It's difficult to trade him and get what we think his talent is worth in return.

In order to get that we need to convince the league that he would be happy staying here. That ship sailed LONG ago. He clearly wants out. It's basically a game of chicken with him and Morey.

Meanwhile it's hurting the Rockets. But Asik doesn't care about that. He wants out, plain and simple. And I don't blame him.

I agree with you that an arguement can be made that its hurting Asik also, but that depends on what he wants and perhaps it's not as cut and dry as we think it is, our perspective obviously not that of a neutral observer. If he did as he was told and it benefited the team what's the guarantee that he would get traded sooner that way? So far Morey hasn't a great track record when it comes to keeping his word to players.

Fool me twice... Fool me twice... Well you can't get fooled again.

Reading some of these stupid posts are ticking me off. Asik is not entitled to anything. He is getting paid to do his job, and until he stops getting paid or is traded he should continue to do his job. As I said before, name me a job that you can get paid and not have to do your duties that come along with your job title. If he is really hurt and can't play, then I'm fine with that. But with the trade demand, pouting and hurt feelings, I believe he just wants to be traded and will sit out until he is, and that is not cool. This is no different from when TMac quit on the team or when White didn't want to play. I know the circumstances are different, but it is the same thing. You can't expect to get paid and not do your job. I agree that DM should have taken the best package so this drama can be over, but he is the GM and doesn't have to take crap from other teams. DM, Rockets, McHale or the players do not owe Asik a damn thing. Earn your money....

*I will say that if he is truly hurt (which I don't think its that serious for him to miss all these games), then get healthy and get back to playing. No more half-ass play or pouting.
