Response I believe Calvin Murphy more than posters here, because he's a neutral party and he's more knowledgeable. My hope is that Rockets will allow Lin to play the PG and Harden the SG before they decide to trade Lin because they think they can get a better PG for Rockets. To me, it would be a mistake to try to turn Lin into a shoot first PG. He's really a pass first and then shoot type of player.
I agree I'm not trying to act like Lin is cp3 Nash he makes a lot of dumb turnovers that make him look super bad, he's young with best court vision & best passing ability, and is the best at feeding the post so the upside is there. Wen can't complain too much is he doesn't get an opportunity to run the offense learn more through trial and error. Harden has his opportunity every night to touch the ball every play and shoot 20-25 shots.and we still complain abit things he does here
We need wings - not just a PG - who actually know how to feed the ball into the post. If we had that, we could work inside out. DH12 would dominate and the 3s would rain when the defense collapses.
It's about trust. I'm not arguing that Lin shouldn't get the ball more. I'm just saying that the rockets don't trust or respect him as much as they harden and the other players. If we had rondo, the rockets would trust his game and call for rondo to handle more than they do for lin. btw, it's been discussed a lot, but a higher percentage of Lins possessions end in a turnover than do hardens possessions. so if lin handles the ball more, he would prob average more turnovers.
Forgot one from my earlier "quote post" HOWARD rockets starting center -" I'm really looking forward to playing P&R with Lin he's a guy who can finish off the p&r and is a great passer in p&r"
Just so we are clear, You believe that Lin's turnover problem is in fact someone else's fault and not because of poor basketball decisions? And because I believe it is because of poor decisions, that I am in fact not a great veteran or a real Rocket fan? Am I getting that right?
Here's a fun hypothetical: Let's replace James Harden with LeBron James. Then let's ask ourselves if you could win a championship if you surrounded LeBron James with a bunch of guys who can't create their own shots but at least they don't turn the ball over and they play good D and they're just a better "fit" than those other guys. Because you have LeBron to handle all of the play-making all of the time and there's only one ball and the other players just need to keep the paint open for LeBron to drive. Ask LeBron how much he wants to play on that team, and what he thinks his chances are of winning a championship with players like that.
Lin vs Dragic vs Lowry JLin total assists: 497 dunk assists: 105 close assists: 158 Gogi total assists: 569 dunk assists: 46 close assists: 155 Lowry total assists: 435 dunk assists: 43 close assists: 110
Getting Rondo wouldn't make us a contender instantly. Harden will turn into a SG which sucks for him. Harden still plays **** D. Most importantly, you have a coach who is not up for the job.
BTW its seems like Andre Miller is on the market. Smart player who does not turn the ball over often. May not be a great defender but is likely an upgrade over Lin. Takes good shots makes good decisions in the clutch and is pretty affordable. May be able to get him and keep Lin.
I think Dwight loves Lin's game and wants to work with him. That's a vibe I get. I think Jones trusts Lin. It's McHale Sampson that sends off sometimes a distrust vibe yet McHale puts him in the game and says play well and Lin responds. Lin's TOs are sometimes low for stretches of games and when he is more productive, sometimes he gets more TOs. But games where the Rockets win and he has high TOs show that he's helping the team even with the TOs. http://stats.nba.com/playerGameLogs.html?PlayerID=202391&pageNo=1&rowsPerPage=25
All of y'all are missing the main issue: it's our coach! It's just like a chef who has all the ingredients, but fail to complete the finish product. McHale is a great motivator, but sucks at X's and O's...in addition, we need a disciplinary coach to check Harden for his lack of effort on defense. If we had Jeff Van Gundy, Jerry Sloan, or even Lionel Hollins, they would bench Harden for his defensive effort. I do agree with Play07, our players are standing around too much...do that under Popovich and you'll see what happens, just ask Danny Green
So does Arron Afflalo. If all we need from the PG spot is 3&D then why not just play another spread the floor, more athletic wing that can d up 1 through 3, and can catch and fire???????? I'm not saying this facetiously. I'm saying it because I keep wondering why have a point guard in there at all with Harden running the offense. Why not go get the guy that can defend 1 through 3 and shoot the 3 ball and just play Harden with that guy, Parsons, Dwight, and whatever PF solution we finally come up with....that PF being another guy that is athletic and can defend all sorts of 4's and can spot up outside and shoot the 3? Then Beverley becomes your backup point guard and all we need is a secondary playmaker, possibly Canaan or maybe somebody like Andre Miller/Luke Ridnour, etc., and a legit backup 5 that can bring the paint D for 15 minutes a night when Dwight is on the bench. Those bench guys become ..... interchangeable year after year ... as we stay in championship contending mode and stay under the luxury tax.
Look at my posts on this thread. I said his TO's are a problem, many are unforced errors, and the result of his lack of discipline and experience.
