http://www.sports790.com/media/podc...ntlemen/thursday-january-2nd-2014-3-24136832/ Morey interview today, thought what he said starting at around the 7:00 mark is interesting. Maybe just a trade period posture. Maybe he told the players this to keep distraction to a minimum. After all, he said similar things before last year's deadline. Or he could be serious.
Assuming it is a leverage move. Let others teams now he has accepted they won't give him a deal he wants so he won't be making any deals.
Clutchfans interpretation of anything Morey says is "he's a smarty pants; whatever he says, believe the exact opposite: he's playing mind games with other GM's". Turns out that Clutchfans is wrong most of the time and that Morey is not the scheming, clever snake they think he is.
I believe Morey is saying multi-messages: "I have received only weak offers for Asik", to fans in general and to other GMs. Asik, he is signalling, despite the artificial market Morey attempted to generate, cannot be dealt for much given that his final contract year is underwater at $15 million. And, to other teams, specifically, "We are not dumping Asik for cheap, so please don't bother to lowball us, for those who have made offers, you must raise your current bid, because we might just keep him". And to Asik, "you may be stuck with us, so hopefully try to get yourself undemoralized and ready to play at 100%". (This is the best scenario what most ppl hope for. With a motivated Asik, the Rockets may seriously contend THIS YEAR.) And to the team: "You guys have been a disappointing bunch of total fokkups, you're nowhere close to championship caliber, you will have to straighten yourselves out; we're not getting much for Asik". And a message that the other guy regularly in trade talks, Lin, is staying. If Lin pans out, might as well keep him the two years. If he doesn't, his balloon payment means his contract, like Asik's, is deep underwater, and cannot be traded for anything of value anyway.
I'm glad to hear him say with their guys style of play they'll make turnovers. I think, I don't know why, but some of the better games they played is when some of their key guys, Dwight, James Harden and Jeremy Lin turn the ball over. Sometimes it works out they don't, but when they do, they seem to loosen up and are more active and not playing as tight. Doesn't mean TOs are good or sometimes they are just flat-out sloppy, but maybe sometimes it's because they are just playing hard and actively.
Could also mean no impact players are coming in. Doesn't mean players wont be going out... an expiring contract and a draft pick or two wouldn't be considered cavalry.
This is like the fable where the scorpion promises the turtle he won't sting him if he carries him across the river.
Reading between the lines, the players are not following the game plan. Mchale is on the hot seat, he has to get the players to follow the game plan.
Hey better do something, GSW is about beat Miami and it will be their 8th win in a row, if something doesn't change, we're going down like Mary J. Blige or Paris Hilton either one fits.
Lol Morey said the same thing a day before the trade deadline last year and ended up trading half our rotation.
Their best players are high to guys. You can't win anything signifcant when you don't get possessions. A bad shot is a lot better than to anyday. I haven't met a coach yet who deosnt think the same. They're sloppy with the ball a lot of times and other times guys are trying to do too much.
