Facts: 1: Mchale has zero playoff experience compared to Adelman which is a championship caliber coach. 2: Mchale was brought to the team for the 'rebuilding' phase which doesn't fit to Adelman. This phase just ended and the rockets are expected to win and now, which is the perfect match for Adelman but terrible with Mchale. This team will never win a championship or even come close with Mchale. The team is playing with absolute zero coaching fingerprints. Giving harden the ball and spacing the floor isn't a play, you don't need coaching staff for that. This might work sometimes, but comes money time, don't expect getting out the first round. If the playoff started today, we couldn't win a series vs any western team, maybe dallas or pheonix. Even Miami were struggling in the beginning with those silly lebron isolations. Not only its a low quality shots, it also brings the others out of the game. This is absolutely terrible. Anything thinking or hoping to come close to win a title with an inexperienced coach like McHale is dreaming, we dont have LBJ and we are not in the east coast.
In b4 the Lin fan obsessive tries to deflect a legitimate issue and derail the thread. Crap.... Too late.... On topic. Mchale is a subpar coach. He is not going to take this team to a title. He can't get hold Harden accountable. His rotation instincts are wrong time and time again (like leaving Brooks out there too long in the 4th, leaving Parsons and Lin on the bench too long). He does not grasp basketball Xs and Os. His playbook is more like a playpage. The team defense continues to be horrible. He does not possess the humility to accept responsibility for losses and always looks to deflect blame.
I think Sampson is the problem actually. I think Sampson would make a better head coach, he is a disciplinarian unlike Mchale who is a players coach. This team needs a firm hand rather than a motivator. Also, Sampson is in charge of defense and I see defensive philosophy problems with the way the Rockets defend the PnR.
So if sampson is the problem how would making him headcoach solve anything? bonehead CF-logic in full display Again full contradictions making the man who is part of our defense problems our headcoache... more like headache than headcoache
Well get over it because he is not going anywhere dwight came here partly because of mchale if everybody gets there dream to come true love will come here because of mchale rudy t. Wasn't like a pop or anything he was a players coach and got ran over by the players
I kind of agree that McHale is not the right guy to lead this team to a deep playoffs run, simply because it appears he doesn't know how to manage minutes properly, and he doesn't know how to manage egos. :X
He also doesn't know his x's and o's. So... I mean, what exactly is he doing? We have a huge staff as well, which is good, and which means clearly the players are part of the issue, too. Specifically, though, the head coach would be someone else. 1) Unprepared for basically every opponent 2) Inconsistent and weak effort against teams we think we can beat --> Another Loss 3) Defense is a joke for the most part 4) Offense can look absolutely/totally ineffective against some teams Yes, still working things out, but I'm not quite confident in this coaching staff to figure it out and implement, and I'm also doubtful of some of our players being able to grow and change sufficiently to truly contend and play at a championship level. We can clearly beat most teams but definitely aren't good enough to beat others. You could argue that it's just certain match-ups, too, in which case we need to upgrade to get the match-ups in our favor......thankfully, roster upgrades is what the Rockets organization seems to have been most effective at doing in recent seasons. Also, our schedule has been pretty rough.. it would be advised for the NBA to spread out the games a bit more, particularly to potentially reduce all these injuries. I'm pretty sure fans would rather watch their favorite players playing at their best when healthy rather than hobbling around and trying to play through injuries --> crappier product. And then again, it's easy to praise the coaching staff when everything is going well! But I think we are underperforming based on the personnel we have. Injuries definitely playing its part, though.
in before people with deloreans travel from 2011 when a certain pg wasn't even on the team t0 2014 to tell us what we already know about Mcwhydidwegetsticky.
This is morey's team not mchale, no way the egos of Sloan or Hollins or whoever the latest coach CF's desire will just give up on the way they know how to coach and embrace morey's way of running a basketball team. Also on a side note, I'm getting sick to death of reading "Sampson is our defensive coach, so it must be his fault" smh
I gotta chance to talk to D Mo last night at Uchi. I asked him why he thinks he hasn't gotten pt since the Memphis game. He said who knows..that's coach for you. Dwight playing 45 mins last night is unacceptable. Fire Mchale.
People keep saying this but first and foremost, Dwight came here to win a championship. He and McHale aren't joined at the hip. If a new coach can get this team closer to championship contention I'm sure Dwight wouldn't have a problem with that. This team is not playing hard for McHale for whatever reason, especially Harden. This is a problem and can't be tolerated much longer. This team doesn't need a player's coach and they will never get anywhere with a player's coach with their current mentality.
McHale's biggest problem is he can't reign in Harden and doesn't hold him accountable. I find it hard to believe that McHale just goes with ISO Harden at the end of quarters/games willingly.
Basically, yes. No good coach wants their players to iso. I do believe that immaturity plays a huge part in this team's performance though. Harden is only 24 and just got paid a ton of money. He definitely does not have Championship aspirations at the top of his list of priorities. Howard on the other hand, is slowly inching past his prime, so he wants to win. McHale basically needs to find a way to motivate Harden to have a Championship mindset or this team is forever set on first and second round exits.
