I'm not sure what we're doing in practice, but how about implementing some NEW PLAYS or actually running a play. The reason teams go on these ridiculous runs against us is because when our shots aren't falling we don't get any easy baskets. This is the fundamental difference between a coach like Adelman verses a coach like Mchale. I still think McHale's done a reasonable job with this team. HOWEVER, we are not winning any championships until we start getting better shots. Relying on 3pt shots & fast break points every games leads to games like tonite (and the Indiana game). How about running some backdoor plays or gettin some movement towards the the basket on the weak side?
I think the players must have hard time learning a complex offensive system like spurs or others. The current offense is to predictable.
Yet somehow better than the Spurs offensive system. Rockets ranks 3rd in offense. Spurs ranks 9th in offense. H2H Rockets 2-0 Spurs.
Yet only 8 assist tonight and plays from behind to often while losing to bad teams. Record for Houston should be better than spurs but OOPS
Contested 3s and excessive turnovers while driving paint vs team ball ? Which would fit the rockets better btw? U guys get defensive like you emotionally attached to this team
What have you been watching? We run plays or sets as the coaches call them. We ran one to free up harden's late game 3 vs. the Pelicans. And that was after a timeout. We also have a number of sets initiated by our PnRs. But we kept blowing lay-ups even when we got to the rim and Ibaka targeted Harden's drives so he stopped driving altogether. (I don't know whyOKC still has it for Harden when he was the one traded away.)
It's a player personnel problem, not coaching. The Rockets are 2-3 pieces away from challenging teams like the Heat, OKC, Clippers...
To be fair, the Rockets have not had a chance to practice all that much this month. Just look at their schedule. But, if I remember, the Rockets offensive philosophy is to be free-wheeling and somewhat unstructured. Sometimes it looks really good, and sometimes it looks like a disaster.
LOL Gonna start spewing this line in every thread now? Memphis Grizzlies have an "identity"... last place in our division, but HEY people know who they are!! That "identity" though!
I have to disagree. The Rockets have the talent to compete for a chip. The disastrous (and completely necessary) TT experiment. So many missed games due to injury. What will the Rockets get back from Asik? If the cards fall right the Rockets could be right there. It is certainly a reasonable possibility.
Playing at a faster pace just means more possessions for both teams. It doesn't automatically increase your offensive efficiency.
As the saying goes- live by the 3, die by the 3. This type of offense doesn't work well in the playoffs, and we can't rely on our defense. We have no structure of discipline on either side of the ball. I'd like to think the team will improve with more time (and they will), but we've seen the same thing each year. This style doesn't translate well in the playoffs. Those who believe we can be a championship team with this style are kidding themselves.
