Again, O'Brien is the head coach of PSU...if he is asked "Are you staying?" by a recruit, then until he has an NFL contract offered to him and he signs the dotted line, he is staying.

If O'Brien signs a contract and then a recruit asks him "Are you staying?"...then yes, he would be lying at that point if he says he is staying.

O'Brien isnt a fortune teller...there are a lot of details to iron out for him to leave PSU and become the head coach of an NFL team.

And you keep saying its going to hurt future recruiting...and that is totally false.

    Common sense nad history.

That's not true. You could have interviewed just to go through the process with no intention of leaving.

I don't think O'Brien will necessarily play the leverage game - but he will look at all the situations and see what is the best situation for him. Maybe that's the Texans, but maybe not. If he thinks team X is a better job, then having a headstart doesn't matter in 24 hours because he'll have the opportunity to talk to that team if they are interested.

If O'Brien is #1 on the Texans list, then O'Brien is the one that has the leverage. If the Texans are #1 on O'Brien's list, then the Texans have the leverage.

I like it. This guy was the offensive coordinator for the pats the year they almost went undefeated and Brady had all those records.

It'll be a late Christmas present from the Texans if this score holds up, and it leaks tonight that we have a deal and the Whisenhunt interview is due dilligence.

O'Brien wants a job in the NFL... that much is known. That won't change after Monday. Yes, more teams are out there then... but so are more candidates (also, remember every team has to interview a minority candidate before they get a new coach... something the Texans already did).

I'm just saying that the "leaks" about him signing are more likely from the Texans people in order to put the pressure on their other candidates, vs. it coming from O'Brien's people (which wouldn't really benefit him, unless he was looking for more money to stay at PSU... who already has leaked who they'd like to move on to if he leaves).

Hard to imagine an adult can be this naive. Welcome to the real world, buddy. Good luck.

Jets announce that Ryan will return as head coach, Shaw is staying at Stanford...O'Brien is my top choice.

It's not that I think either Lovie or Whisenhunt would be BAD choices. They'd both be on my list, but I prefer to take the chance on O'Brien. Both Lovie and Wiz had some issues with coordinators and/or GMs in their last stops.

I'm really not sure why we haven't run that offense. We have the personnel for it IMO. There's talent in the TE and WR position groups.

This assumes that either the Texans don't want O'Brien and are lying to him, or they are trying to play this cheap and get someone else to commit soon at a lower rate. Either option sucks. If the Texans really want O'Brien, then putting pressure on their other candidates is irrelevant. If they don't, then either they are lying to O'Brien, or someone in O'Brien's camp would have leaked that they aren't on the verge of a deal.

You're assuming the leaker has some motivation other than selfishness. Most of these leaks are done because someone wants to be an inside source. And plenty of people without any stake in a deal would know about this, so it's not like it has to be O'Brien's people or the Texans' people.

Shaw was the choice I wanted, but O'Brien would do. And like you said Lovie and Whisenhunt are the "safe" picks per say, it's time for something fresh choice, and this team needs a jolt.

The inside source still needs to get their info from one of the two parties (without being slanderous).

It benefits the Texans to leak this info more than it does O'Brien. Perhaps they really are close to a deal, but the Texans could nix it for somebody else (at a cheaper rate or that person being ok with less personnel control) if they accepted. O'Brien's camp wouldn't know whether or not they were being used as leverage (as most people being used for leverage are the "silent victim").

Also further makes sense that the Texans leaked this with today's leaked news that the consultants "saw" something with him at PSU that they wanted to investigate further.

Thus, the Texans seem on the verge of signing a coach (which puts pressure on the other candidates to possibly lower their asking terms), but also give themselves an out when/if they go with somebody else (rather than it being because the coach they went with was okay with accepting a smaller contract, or less power).

Texans fans should be concerned about O'Brien possibly going to Cleveland. They have a lot of talent and picks and their GM Lombardi has a relationship with Belichick.
