Not sure why people keep pointing to Stanford game with Mariotta. His knee was banged up, so that he couldn't run or scramble. That took away a large part of his game. However, I think Mariotta needs another year of college before he's ready for the pros.
Great pocket escapability and quick trigger shown so far. Can't take the safety but it was terrible protection to be fair.
Exactly what I saw on that one series, lol. Also awesome velocity and patience while rolling out that was almost Andrew Luck-esque.
overthrows have been his biggest weakness. ive read that scouts believe his over throws will be less of a weakness in the pros with bigger faster receivers...
You're right I don't like him because he overthows receivers, he's not good against the blitz, and his arm doesn't look strong. He doesn't look like a franchise saving qb
I like how he's already sliding in college. Smart playing. He's also very accurate to WR's when they have tight coverage on his short throws.
lol people have unrealistic expectations.. this isnt nfl blitz or a highlight reel. watch the game, he isnt going to make top 10 plays every possession..
While I believe that he does overthrow, I don't see how its that much of a flaw? Can't that be abjusted in the NFL? WR's should be faster/bigger and he can "tone it down". I'd rather have him overthrow than under throw. But I agree that overthrowing is one of his weakness'.
The man has no run game whatsoever, but he has been overthrowing receivers. The most important thing to me is that he has been great on his reads after that safety.
I think his overthrows are due to lack of touch. All of his passes are crisp bullets, even his deeper throws. Aside from the touch issue, he's impressive. He has good pocket presence, can make throws on the run or from the pocket with accuracy, good arm strength, quick release, good mobility and speed, and I've seen make reads in a progression on plays. He's impressive, wondering though why he didn't light it up more this year.
