The Bynum news is actually not likely to be helpful to Morey. He is one more center on the market, either via trade or via a cheap free agent signing. A team interested in Asik before could pursue Bynum as a cheaper (in terms of $ paid and assets traded) alternative.
Are they still paying him? As long as they are, he does owe them. I don't see how anyone can defend him. We all knew what the Cavs were gonna be this year, including him, but they were the only franchise willing to take a real chance on him with a real money offer. And he pulls this crap. He symbolizes what is wrong with the mentality of tons of twenty-something's.
The point they can waive him is Jan 7. After that the Cavs aren't obligated to pay him a dime unless they want to pay him. And he did play this season, more than he ever played for the 76ers while injured. He might not have played all out, but then if you were going to hold that against him there's be 200 other NBA players you could rail against too. Bynum showed up, played minutes, went home. He didn't refuse to play, the Cavs didn't like his attitude and so they want to get rid of him.
Definitely seems like a trade Morey could either make directly or facilitate. No doubt they want Asik....the question is how much would they be willing to give up? Either way, this is probably what Morey has been waiting for...attrition at the center position across the league. With Lopez and now Bynum MIA, we are probably getting closer to a deal.
That's a good point. The Cavs themselves might be interested in Asik, but on the other hand a wing shooter/defender is just as big a priority for them. So if they choose to go in that direction, then it could make it harder for Morey.
My salary isn't guaranteed. Does that mean I shouldn't go to work with a positive attitude and work hard?

What you should do morally and what people actually do are two different things. I see people mailing it in on the job in all walks of life. That's just the reality of life. This doesn't make Bynum good or bad, just human. Just because you don't mail it in, doesn't mean that other human beings don't mail it in. Especially when they dislike their co-workers or the company they work for... the difference is that unlike people in most lines of work, most NBA players can't just quit due to their contracts. Bynum is in the position he can effectively "quit" and go work somewhere else. He's basically telling the Cavs to take this job and shove it...
Once Cavs trade Bynum think they'll be open to Asik for Waiters? That would solve the "sixth" man issue, bu then again he's a defensive liability
Lets see where he winds up first, because if manages to get to a contending team that he wants then he's smart. Shady maybe, but smart. The money may not be his motivation to keep playing.
Signing Bynum was an extremely dumb move in the first place. What scares me is how r****ded Bynum is. Dude is so messed up in the head that he is risking all that money.
The guy has made over $100M and has 2 rings. And he's not risking the full $18M. The worst case scenario is he ends up on a team he likes and takes a lower salary, but still gets paid something.
