Not sure, but if Nets will suck till the end - Hawks may have some great picks this year. They can make 3-way deal too if not interested in Asik tho.

Whatever ails Asik (the knee / thigh thing, or "Omer not want to play anymore" ego), it'll keep him from being traded for the time being. Sit tight.

Where are you even reading "may be out for the season"? I'm just reading about a shoulder strain.

Wow, thanks for the link. What a blow for the Hawks if this is indeed another torn muscle.

Same injury he had couple of years ago and cost him over 50 games. Assuming around 50 games left this season, he may be.

Why would they trade for Asik of Horfords season is over? They'd be better tanking for a nice pick.

If Horford is through for the year (premature at this point) it would make the Nets/Hawks pick that the Celtics own more valuable.

Would they be bad enough? They're 7-3 in their last ten, and have played fewer games against the East then most of the teams beneath them (not by a large amount, but still... more "easier" wins for them then the rest of the teams, who have another game or two versus the West relative to Atlanta).

Certainly, they could tank... but to me the gaps were
    Tier 1: Miami/Indiana
    Tier 2: Atlanta
Tier 3: Everyone else in the East.

Finally, I believe they have the RIGHT to swap picks with the Nets, not the Nets pick outright. They're 6 games in the loss column ahead of the Nets. Lot of season left, obviously, so maybe there is some concern that the Nets somehow right the ship...

But their best strategy might still be to try and make the playoffs, hope to improve their draft stock by taking the Nets pick, get some of their other young talent some playing time, hope Horford can come back for the playoffs. If that is a strategy, Asik could be a great fit for them. Let Millsap fill the scoring role that Horford was doing, and let Asik fill the defense/boards role that Millsap may give up a bit in Horford's absence.

The issue, of course, is that Millsap is the player the Rockets would want. And frankly, aside from the picks and Millsap, there isn't a ton of Hawks assets left that the Rockets or a third team might want. I think it's less likely the Hawks trade a pick now - they may still want to make the playoffs and pursue the above strategy, but only knowing they still have a shot at the lotto via NJ... as they clearly aren't making any deep deep playoff runs.

I'd certainly take Korver, but the guy plays 35 minutes a night for them. Again, probably not something they'd trade.

I guess the other strategy for them could be a full tank job... though it lessens the value of that Nets swap... but if they did go full tank, would Asik, DMo, Canaan, Covington, Rockets picks even be that useful to them... in exchange for a Millsap type package? The best thing they'd get out of that trade would be the ability to suck more this year... but honestly, an Asik in the center (if healthy and engaged) surrounded by small-ball guard play we already know can work. They don't have a James Harden but they have guards who can score.

Just hard to see a Rockets-Hawks trade materializing at this point, but who knows.

The Celtics own the less favorable of the Nets-Hawks picks. First the Hawks get to choose the more favorable. Then the Celtics get the less favorable.

If the Hawks do nothing, but don't actively try to tank, do you think the Hawks miss the playoffs now? I still don't. Yes, the Celtics pick gets better, but not a ton imo.

That said, it does make a Bass/Lee/more favorable pick of theirs - Nets deal for Asik at least a bit more valuable.... but I'd assume the Celtics wanted to send the less favorable, and meaningfully lottery protect in either case... whereas DM probably wanted the reverse "protection" - eg the it has to be in the lottery clause.

Some lady sitting next to me @ the game last night kept asking when Acy had been traded. Finally she asked me directly. I couldn't figure out why anyone would care about Quincy Acy, but I explained that he got shipped to SAC w/ Rudy Gay -- and she started arguing me down about it, saying no he didn't and I was totally wrong and that's not what she read, blah blah blah. Finally she was like, "I think you're misinformed. I heard he was faking an illness and that's why we can't trade him!" I'm like, ma'am. Are you talking about ASIK?? WTF lol.

No word yet on the seriousness of the injury. It may or may not be serious, but this is exactly why they need to get a center and let him play power forward instead of wrestling all game with guys bigger and sometimes stronger than he is. He would have a size and strength advantage against most power forwards.

If you look at Horford's boxscore and +/- numbers, Horford plays fine as a C, but it does seem to sap his energy in the long run.

Not to say he wouldn't get injured otherwise, but Horford did get injured this time messing around with Anderson Varejao, the kind of guys that you'd play against at C that tires you out and occasionally hurts you (and himself).

I'd be good for his health if they could offload that dirty work to a real big C.

Hilarious, that reminds me on NBA 2K series they used to randomly pronounce Battier as Battie.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist but aren't you supposed to be female? That kind of use of Ma'am is usually a guy thing.
