Even though this Memphis game is still hanging in the balance, this is another poor reflection of no direction on this team which points to lack of good coaching. Games like this show why McHale is not a good coach. You can't just run and gun all the time. On tough nights you have to have more plays in you arsenal then iso ball. Now with Dwight being taken out of the game with foul trouble, the rebounding is effected to out let pass for transition baskets which may hinder to Rox offense even more. This team has no real direction which is why its hard for me to see them being able to contend under a guy like McHale.
This team is no where near being a contender with McHale as coach. There is a greater chance of us being embarrassed in front of the entire league in the first round - than the possibility of advancing. And I honestly think that's the best thing for us if that is the final straw for McHale being the coach. The Playoffs is as much about the coaching staff and their adjustments than it is the players on the floor. Sure we'll win one or two with our talent. And that's when the opposing coach will step in with schemes and tactics to make it harder for us and nullify some of our options. Meanwhile to combat that McHale's go to move A,B,C,D and all the way to Z is yell "COME ON GUYS PUSH IT. COME ON GUYS. COME ON GUYS." I've seen literally nothing after an entire offseason together and 30 games into the season to let me think that he is capable of implementing anything or change for the better.
Valid argument.... McHale is popular with most of the players on the roster he can't be rid of easily
If that's the scenario then place him somewhere within the organisation that isn't the coach. I'm sure there aren't going to be too many players who will get annoyed at trading McHale for someone of George Karl/Lionel Hollins/Jeff Van Gundy's pedigree who have in the past taken teams far and know what it takes.
So McHale wins thanks to playing DMo and Lin in the 4th, the two guys he's racist against (it's a joke ok, most people should understand the joke) ...
If AB had hit a couple more shots down the stretch and not tweaked his ankle, I doubt Lin would be out there.
Jeff Van Gundy has championship experience. Lionel Hollins took a mediocre memphis team to the western conference finals. Mchale sodomized the Minnesota Timberwolves as a gm and coach so bad they're still hurting until now.
LOL What a bunch of crap you idiots continually post dissing McHale and the Rockets. If god almighty coached the Rockets you all would be talking about how incompetent the coaching staff is. I understand enough about the NBA game to know that you all know nothing. A bunch of knee jerk comments that clearly show a serious lack of understanding and knowledge. Find another hobby you tramps, because you are not good at this one.
What an insightful post. Truly, truly insightful. You know nothing about basketball. See - we can both state ludicrous claims.
You don't believe that my comment fell upon some well deserving ears? "Fans" that don't understand the NBA game, who cannot fathom a tagging defense, shooting a screen, a curl, a backdoor cut ... and on and on and on. Parading around ignorance is just embarrassing for the poster and those unlucky individuals who read their drivel.
What annoys me the most about all the crazy switchings is the lack of ownership of coaching fail. I saw some quotes attributed to McHale & Parsons (I believe) saying the game was lost because of the Mav-run at the beginning of the 3rd. What a load of BS! The game was lost b/c of the switches and mismatches that had our guards on Dirk while he laid in shots after shots in the 4th. We needed to get stops on Dirk and McHale had no defensive scheme to figure this out. But blame it on that 3rd quarter run because its easier to absolve the coach of making no adjustments when Dirk single-handedly killed up in the 4th.
what exactly did kevin mchale accomplish as a minnesota timberwolves coach that you can call excellent?
The mechanics of playing basketball are easily understood. What is much more opaque is coaching. How does McHale handle players and their egos who make 10 or 20 times as much money? How does one motivate and discipline young men, many of them with still developing brains (developmental psychology) without losing them to insolence or apathy or rebelliousness? And really is that not the head coaches main job? With 5 assistant coaches doesn't McHale's main responsibility come down to keeping the players happy and focused? Has he achieved that task?
