This. Just because the show is lame now does NOT mean Magic was any good. Reminder of what it looked like with Magic. (pretend it is halftime of the Rockets/ Warriors game) Magic: huhuhuh, LA Lakers, Lakers LA, LA LA LA Simmons: I don't think they're playing Magic: ?? Simmons: Let's talk about how well Howard is shooting free throws this last week Magic: Howard used to play in LA. Magic: YOU KNOW WHAT (getting worked up) STEPH CURRY SHOULD BE TRADED TO THE LAKERS (frothing at the mouth) LA LA LA LA Magic: LA LA LA LA LA LAAAAKERS Magic: LAAAAAAKERS Magic: LA LA LA LA Magic: So, a trade package would include Nick Young, and the Warriors would send Curry, Thompson, Iguodala, Lee, Bogut and 7 first round picks Magic: LALALALALAAAAAKERS Magic: LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKERS (halftime finishes)
Simmons is pretty damn bad. I changed the channel during the half time break to CSN. Watching Calvin Murphy's suit was worth it.
I watched the whole game on the csn broadcast. Terrible halftime show and bubbie is a babbling, senile, buffoon
Doug Collins belongs in a McDonal's drive thru. He can preach the intricacies of BigMac cauce to countless of folks who simply dont care. He can team up with Hubie Brown the senile fry maker who will always put salt in your fries whether you asked for it or not.
People's take on these shows seem to be a matter of personal taste. Can't please everybody. To me, Collins seems an odd fit. A guy like Stan Van Gundy would be much better but apparently Stern got him black-listed by ESPN. Hope to see Stan on TV next year after Stern gone but he may get a coaching job.
You forgot Wilbon saying earvin every few seconds like he is the only person in the world close enough with magic Johnson to use his real name.
It's an unwatchable show to me. They've got the wrong people doing the wrong things. The corporate setup is all wrong for Rose/Simmons. Steele is awkward, and Collins is tough to listen to for more than 5 seconds. As someone else said, go full grantland or takeout Collins/Simmons and get all former players.
Simmons has a revolting personality... Unfortunate because he seems to be a smart guy. His TV persona makes me think he would be better off working for TMZ.
I personally chuckled at this:grin: Bill Simmons does not strike me as guy with a high basketball IQ. Atleast Magic had solid insight on certain aspects of the game we probably wouldn't notice. But Simmons almost never says anything worth listening too, other than catty gossip or trade rumors. He just doesn't belong on that type of show. If it were my decision I'd kept Magic & Wilbon and got rid of Simmons
I would have disagreed with you if you said this to me 3 months ago. Not so much after: "I REALLY like the Reggie Williams pickup" "TRob will succeed with the Blazers" "Dragic for Lamb, Perk and Jackson" "Asik has lost half his trade value" Dude is of the old guard and dominated with his columns. However, ask him to backup some of his BS statements and he has to lean heavily on the uber talented Zach Lowe.
I'm just watching the halftime show right now, and it is unwatchable. They are trying to talk about Kevin Love, and Simmons just starts blurting out BS about how Love will never stay in Minnesota.... Completely off topic and annoying.
