Yesterday Rich and Charlie, SportsRadio lightweights, said that Rudy had left for a European scouting trip. CONCLUSION: Rudy remains in 'The Seat'. I am ok with that, but I would have preferred a new start with JVG or Mo Cheeks.

I am not ok with any assistants losing their jobs for Rudy to retain his. I would be surprised if that were true.

I am not ok with the assistants if at least two credible NBA-level assistants are not brought in. Guys like Luke to work with the guards and Mo or Kareem or ??? to work with the big guys.

Congrats, Rudy. Now coach us a winner, NOW!

But those guys aren't credible NBA-level assistants.

Cancer and the move to the new arena saved his job...Les has to sell tickets and stability is more important right now.

However, bet your a$$ that Rudy and staff are on a very short leash.

Boylin's already announced he's going back to coaching in college (Michigan State, if I remember correctly?). So there'll definitely be some movement within his coaching staff. I just hope they bring in a ringer, and not a work-in-progress/intern type.

I thought Boylen announced he wasn't going to take the Michigan State assistant job. Yeah, I know Rudy's coming back, with most all of his staff. It sucks. I can't stand them sucking.

Please get at least one "brains" assitant, Les! He's right there - Van Chancellor! Or please move Carroll Dawson back down to the bench! Or someone new. And get at least one ex player "technique" coach who works mostly off the bench - Hakeem, Mo, Calvin?

Oh, cripey, it ain't gonna happen. That totally sux. What a wussy 'chise.

    Quick question:
Does this mean we're going to draft a Euro guy?
    (1st or 2nd round?)

Doesnt Les see that having A Coach that might go down again in the future , means that Larry Smith as substitute Head Coach is a failure and just wont do. Larry needs to be the number Seven or Eight on the Coaches Bench!!!

It means Rudy is checking things out. I hope he finds a good international to stash for a year or two until there is a place on 'the big club'.

Why does Rudy even scout european talent?

Can somebody name one decent european talent that Rudy has scouted and drafted?

From Turcan to Nachbar, we keep here promises (on draft day), that these guys are going to blow us away. So far nothing!

Don't forget Maceo Nicola, who was parleyed into Drexler!

Rudy T has NOT finished his treatment. He is scheduled to complete them in a few weeks and then he will undergo another biopsy soon after. So why will he be on his way to Europe? Pressure? Trying to prove something to his boss and fans? If he could skip treatment now why didn't he save us the nightmare of Mr Mean? This does not make any damn sense - an explanation should be in order.

I can't stand another year of Rudyball. For all of the get rid of Rudy posts that are inevitable next season, can we start new threads or will we have to continue with the ones from this year in order to save bandwidth space?

It makes no sense... Would he be coaching now if we had made the playoffs?

I coulda sworn I remember the news & the newspaper reporting right when the season ended that he was going to Michigan State. But I haven't been able to find any articles to verify that. Anyone else?

I don't know, but I think when you're scouting in Europe, you can probably take it easy and take in the sights, whereas in the playoffs the pressure and stress is far greater.

But that's just me... I'll leave the rest of this thread to the lynch mob after Rudy. :)

Coaching an NBA team, even during the season, is as far from scouting as Europe is from France.

Rudy's travels imply an OK from both the docs and the owner. The first is very good the latter ok.

But he has not completed his treatment. He has at least 3 or 4 treatments date remains based on the initial time table we were given. After the final treatment, he will under go another biopsy to make sure that the superficial cancer is gone.

    So what changed now?

If he could do this now, why did he leave and let Larry Smith torture and extinguish our playoffs hope and opportunity?

I am damn sure he has not completed his treatment. I gues he will be back before the next scheduled treatment. That is one possible explanation I can come up with.

maybe his schedule for treatment has changed

maybe they have the ability to treat his condition in Europe, they have medicine there right, maybe not.

maybe Rudy was right when he said coaching would make his treatment near impossible

and maybe scouting in Europe isn't like coaching in the NBA at all!!!!

Actually, it's probably better to get a good foreign player in contract with our 2nd rounder than pick a young potential with a 1st. These older players can play, but they are in contract for a year or two. We can wait. It's just a 2nd round pick.
