According to a league source, the Rockets had preliminary talks with the Nets last week about Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin. Talks never gained any steam, but the source said the Rockets were doing their due diligence and Williams' name came up. The Nets balked because one of the main reasons Pierce and Garnett agreed to a trade to Brooklyn was to play with Williams, according to the source. Williams, who signed a five-year, $98 million extension in 2012, was playing well upon returning from an ankle injury, and the Nets were looking better. The only way to save that team is to deal DWill but they'd get a lot more then Asik and lin if they did. I'm sure KG and Pierce would be happy to get dealt as well
That would be great for both teams, it would give the Nets a better chance to start over and the Rockets the third star. DD
Hrm. Sounds cool on paper, but Williams is not the player he was 2 or 3 years ago anymore, and by picking him up you're definitely locked into Williams, Howard, and Harden for the foreseeable future. Sounds great for the first year or 2, but 4/5 years from now that would be a toxic situation contract and health wise. Doesn't seem like Morey's style to paint the Rockets into a corner like that.
I think in the right situation he can be worth every dollar he gets. We still need that perimeter offensive threat to go with Harden. Chandler is good, but we need something a little better.
The Nets need a center because with Brook Lopez's broken foot, his season/career (see Yao Ming) could be over & we would be replacing their once allstar point guard with a better than average point guard. It's a perfect 2 for 1 deal, but I'm sure the Rockets would have to include extra players or cash to make the contract numbers match.
