With Bev, Lin, and Harden all possibly out, I think the Rockets would be smart to go sign a combo guard who can play backup PG minutes behind Brooks and maybe some SG minutes too. We'd have to cut someone (probably Brewer or Covington).

    Leandro Barbosa
    Roddy Beaubois
    Keyon Dooling
    Boobie Gibson
    Andrew Goudelock
    Royal Ivey

Those are all guys who are free agents and I think would be capable of stepping right in to play back up PG minutes and some SG minutes as well

Forgot Mike James. Gotta get him before the Lakers.

Actually, the Lakers would like to get Goudelock.

Canaan is obviously the better overall player, but Daniel's niche is probably worth more right now.

I feel this is the ideal time for Canaan to get a taste of NBA basketball, the speed, intensity and how much he still needs to work on D. And hopefully he takes this back to the DLeague and works on it for a further 10-20 games and hopefully he'll be close to ready.

That's mostly true. Can you imagine having a 46% 3-point shooter next to Harden on the wing with Parsons on the other wing?

Just curious why you say that? Defense? If so, what do you see bad in his defense at RGV that makes you think he would be such a liability here?

He's up because we need bodies but I don't believe he'll get any meaningful action even if Lin is out a bit longer. He's not ready and is just here to play in emergency situations or blowouts. If Lin is still out, Brooks will start with Harden/Parsons rotating at backup pg duties. Defense will suffer greatly however, Brooks is a below average defender and no one else on the roster can effectively guard opposing pg's that are legitimate offensive threats.

Is Lin really injured or is he "injured"? Did Asik rub off on him too?

As for Canaan, now's your chance rook.

So I'm guessing it's a safe bet that he will get some minutes tonight? I'd like to see him matched up against Larkin.

If Lin is going to be back than I'd say its safe to say probably not. I'd think that he's really just back to be insurance if either Lin can't go, one of them gets injured or in foul trouble.

For Canaan, when or if he does get minutes, the thing to watch will be how he adjusts to not being the #1 playmaking option on the court, and how he runs plays through Howard.

Canaan in college and at RGV has been the primary ball handler and play maker. Its allowed him the ability to get and create shots (often poor quality) for himself. Playing next to the likes of Harden, Parsons, and Lin it will be interesting to see if he does anything other than take shots away from the other guys when he does touch the ball.

I hope I'm not making Canaan seem like a selfish player. He's certainly not that. In the fast break, and when he drives the lane, he's often the guy who sets up his teammates for quality shots, but his 1st instincts are usually dribble shoot. If he does that one or two times tonight or the first time he gets significant PT, McHale will send him packing back for RGV and just play Brewer 40 minutes a night instead. Hopefully he fits in well, and is able to do some of the little things to help the team win, and long-term work towards upgrading the position.

? So far in his career and college, he has created high quality opportunities for himself versus the competition he has played. I do think some of the off the dribble threes (and twos) will not work in the NBA.
