Because it allows Developers to have a uniform platform to develop for. If you know everyone has a Kinect, then you will use it to enhance games.
Look...if you don't want kinect, then you should keep the PS4. There camera is optional.....(of course, it doesn't do nearly as much either).
I'd be stunned if xbox ever does that, and I think if they do, it would be a dumb move. It's pointless to have a system where some people have the kinect and others dont...in other words, no developer will ever integrate the Kinect if it's only on a percentage of systems out there. And that'll lead to less innovation in the long run. If Xbox wants to have something differentiate it from the ps4, it needs expand on the kinect and capitalize on it.
It doesn't seem like developers are really taking advantage of Kinect as is (Titanfall won't support it IIRC), and even when they do, it seems to be primarily for voice control. Through multiple generations of camera tech in games, I'm not sure anything has really stuck, outside of voice control. Perhaps keeping it in will result in some cool innovations only possible with Kinect, but if it just ends up adding dead weight to the console, I'm not sure it makes sense to keep it. If MS feels that sales are not where they'd like them to be, and they feel the higher price tag might be a reason for that, I could definitely see them dropping Kinect, especially if they see developers not really taking advantage of it. They can just throw in a headset or something (or are they already doing that, I forgot?), and still get the benefits of voice control. MS can still push the Kinect strong, like they did with the 360. There would be enough of a userbase to justify developing games for it, especially if MS are funding the projects.
Anyone whinging about the kinnect doesn't haven't the system. It works great, it is easy to use...I'm playing games and couldn't care less that it's not integrated right now. Still, I use it all the time going through menus and obviously to switch off the console. At the end of the day it is a big point of difference between the two systems. MS won't ditch it.
I think the majority of people got burned by the original Kinect on the 360. They spent $150 on it and barely played it. Why would MS force a peripheral on every consumer? I thought MS was all about giving the gamers a choice on what they want to purchase, rather than sticking it down their throats. I think MS would do better with a Kinectless sku. Look at the Wii U. I think the new touch pad controller is neat, but ultimately useless. I rather game on a regular controller than the 3 hour battery life touch screen behemoth. Nintendo would've probably done better with the Wii U if the gamepad was an option. When Microsoft announced they were forcing consumers to have their systems online every 24 hours or the system wouldn't work and the inability to sell used games, not many people liked it. Basically, why is MS trying to force things that the majority of consumers don't want instead of giving them the choice?
I think you should speak for yourself instead of saying "majority of consumers". You don't know what the majority of consumers want.
The motion control aspect of the Kinect is ****ing terrible. There's a reason why most titles don't even bother. Camera and voice control I don't have any real issue with. Though voice control is still a far cry from Siri or Google Now (which themselves aren't perfect).
Did the Kinect have a 100% attach rate with the 360? I guess you were pleased when they made that announcement earlier this year? If so many people wanted it, why did they do a massive reversal on many of the policies they originally had? What is the Xbone doing specifically with the camera that they couldn't have done with just the mic?
I wasn't talking about any of that. All I was saying is, you don't really have the any basis to say what the majority of people want or don't want. None of that tells you or me if most people want or don't want Kinect with the Xbox One.
Why are people who own the sony system go on the xbox thread and tell them what they like and should not like ? Is Sony paying them? Is this going to save kids in Africa ?
I own a 360 and refuse to purchase a system that forces a peripheral that I will never use. Why don't you answer my questions instead of asking another? If MS didn't force the Kinect at $499 and made it optional at $399, maybe I wouldn't see the stores full of Xbones. Btw, I'm much more of a gamer than the majority of you fanboys. I actually have almost every console since the Atari 2600.
Wise choice my friend. I played Titanfall several times at PAX Prime in August, it was effing amazing. The first console seller of the new generation, well that and Project Spark. Correct. Once you get your hands on an Xbox One and use Kinect it all makes sense. The Xbox One simply isn't Xbox One without the Kinect, it is that awesome. FYI - I'm an admin of the Xbox group on the internal Microsoft Yammer network (in other words, I work for MS and have contact with the Xbox team). You won't see a non-Kinect Xbox One, ever. They required Kinect to be bundled with Xbox One because for developers to invest in developing for it they had to know that every Xbox One has it. This is the very reason so few Xbox 360 games actually tried to harness the power of Kinect. All because of the old Microsoft adage, "Developers, developers, developers!" Developers love the Kinect, and they wanted it bundled so they knew everyone would have one. The already great voice recognition is going to improve dramatically over the next year for it as well. Windows Phone 8.1 is going to have a Siri-like "Cortana" personal assistant, that will be ported to Xbox One, which has amazing possibilities. Developers are going to do some mind-blowing things with the Kinect, mark it. The first time I yelled a Zombies to distract them in Dead Rising 3 was pretty amazing to me. Such a simple idea, but added a depth of realism I had never experienced. Also, I use the voice commands for Xbox One more than I use the controller, especially for TV "Xbox, watch HBO" and apps like Netflix when I'm cooking, doing dishes, browsing the web on my Surface from the couch, etc. Exactly, and which is why the PS4 camera is a waste of money. Developers (other than first party) won't develop for the camera - because they don't know who has or use cameras. Just wait for "Cortana," she's coming soon. Everyone I know that has an Xbox One and didn't want a Kinect, couldn't imagine it without it now. The first time you change the channel, or turn on your TV or open an app with your hands full, or why you are doing dishes, or cleaning... it all makes sense. Remember, the Xbox One will have a shelf life of 10+ years, just remember how far Xbox 360 has come since it's initial launch.
I hope that you actually work for Sony as much as you shill for them. You have had the same shtick on this board since the days of the PS2. If you prefer (clearly) Sony products, and that's great man! Play them to your heart's content. That's not simply the case with you, though. Is your life so devoid of anything that matters that you have, for years, trolled thread references to others consoles as if your professional livelihood depended on it? I mean, you have - so the answer to that must be yes.
I think the PS4 is pretty rad, but I am biased to Microsoft. I want the PS4 to succeed, because competition is great for all gamers! I'm a PC gamer as well... I just wish more people didn't get in to pissing matches about stuff other people choose to buy. Believe it or not, most inside of Microsoft feel the same way about wanting the PS4 to succeed. The market is big enough for everybody, and each console sold makes the entire gaming industry more legitimate.
Sorry Gamer did someone force you to buy anything ? Great I'm glad you probably know how to play pitfall and breakout. you sure sound like you have an agenda on this thread and it's obvious.
He doesn't work for Sony. I meet with the Sony folk every year at CES. They wouldn't hire someone with who's about to go postal every time someone mentions Microsoft. He's like the lin fans except sony is a corporation not a player on the rockets .
You are as bad as that one Microsoft fanboy whose username I forget. No scratch that. You're about as bad as LOFs are.
