Legal behavior is not always ethical behavior. Expressing an unpopular personal opinion (or telling a bad joke) is not grounds for losing one's job. Put your pitchforks away.
Exactly. I don't think most people berating her (deservedly) realize how ridiculous it is that a PR exec put out such an ignorant tweeet. A woman in her position should have the judgement and experience to realize the magnitude of such a statement.
Ironic that this happens the day after I had a conversation with a colleague about how our company can and will fire us for inappropriate comments on social media. Basically, if it reflects bad on the company, they will can you.
Instead of blaming the pitchforks - who have no power whatsoever except to express their thoughts (something I assume you support) - maybe you should blame the company that actually made the decision.

Her career is destroyed, I don't consider it a dramatization. Watch any episode of Tosh.0 and you will hear far worse. And why did this "journalist" single out this particular private citizen for destruction? He could find far more offensive tweets in a few seconds with a simple search. Not to mention he did it when she was flying to Africa so she couldn't respond.
Be mad at your precious corporation for caving to public pressure if you actually care for this woman so much. They were under no obligation to fire her. If they were worried about their bottom line, then that's just the free market at work.
Why would the corporation be at fault for acting in the interest of its shareholders? The Twitter lynch mob and the public they ginned up are to blame.

They could have ignored it and it would have blown over but they fired her because thur didn't want to have anything to do with her. Its really silly to blame someone from publishing a already published statement. Twitter builds in retweets for that exact purpose. To spread the words of ppl for whatever reason you want. Showing off a tweet on a website isn't any different to that philosophy. Also, you're right there are a lot of ****ty things said on twitter.... And this is one of them. What's your point?
