This isn't about Beverley being a good or bad player, it's about how the match ups play on the floor.

There are a handful of teams with Elite defenders that can give Harden a very hard time. The Pacers is one of them. However, once Harden is being neutralized, then the pressure is on the remaining players to create and carry the offense.

Beverley is high impact against teams where the opposing offense runs heavily through the PG position, but against teams where the PG doesn't generate most of the offense, then that great defense doesn't help all that much.

Stopping George Hill has virtually no impact on Indiana.
Stopping Mario Chalmers won't win you the game.

And it's not like Beverley is going to stop Tony Parker.

This is about match ups. In this situation you would want a creating PG like Dragic, Lowry, or Lin on the floor versus Beverley with the starting unit. The main reason being that without Harden, Parsons can't do it by himself.

And Lin would do fine. He would get the ball along with Parsons because Harden has to pass out when he's covered by a defender like Paul George. Also, you don't have multiple Elite defenders on the same team. And their best defender will always be on Harden.

This gives players like Parsons and Lin more room to attack and distort the defense.

Just like you don't put Beverley on a 6'10" forward, there's a time and a place where Beverley on the floor makes less sense than others. And against a team like the Pacers is one of them.

¿? Both were traded to make room for Dwight. Please, educated opinions.

I really hope that was sarcasm... but I´ll point it out anyways. We traded away Morris and PAtterson to have the cap space to get Dwight. T-Rob was a much easier to move piece than Patterson and he got us some nice picks and overseas players in return.

In short: without those trades our team would be worse today. Either without Howard, or we would have to package picks to get the capspace of PAttersons contract instead of gaining picks.

Shut the **** up 13ers. You are the least qualified person here to judge who is a real fan. I have enough track record here and don't even need to argue with an idiot like you.

Pacers are legit contenders who are almost as good as the Heat. Rockets are a good team who are playing with a major piece (Howard) for the first time. Plus, Harden's not 100% and a key player like Lin was missing.

    No need to panic.

This game was an abomination. Whole team should be sick on a national stage. They have no toughness. Play a good east team and they crumble. Pathetic

Lack of focus has been the down fall of this team thus far. The bench needs to be taken care of IF this team is to go far in the playoffs.

there wasn't a win now mentality....where did you get that from, howard never said it when he signed, he did say, he wanted to win in the 4 years he is at the Rockets, it was always a long term plan

I know that. I'd still like to have Marcus Morris and Patterson back with Dwight. but wishful thinking. I'm just frustrated man.

Overall Houston is outmatched in 3 of the 5 starting spots…

    5: Hibb or How… How
    4: West or Jones… West
    3: PG or Parsons… PG
    2: Stephenson or Harden… Harden
    1: Hill or Bev… Hill

So Pacers puts PG on Harden, and Stephenson on Parsons, lets Hibb play Howard without really doubling or tripling Howard. Stephenson isn’t going to totally shut Parsons down, but his physical (and sometimes reckless) defense does a good enough job, and he matches Parsons in scoring. PG on harden is going to be a mismatch…PG simply has the advantage here, being taller & lengthier, more athletic, with good scoring abilities and better defense than JH. Hibb isn’t going to shut down Howard, but they don’t need him to. TJones is not going to stop West (and West didn’t even need to have a big game). And as good a one-on-one defensive player as Bev is, stopping Hill wasn’t going to put a dent in Indy’s game; also, Hill ended up with a decent game anyways, and he had almost no pressure to defend Bev.

Overall, Indy’s starting players are more well rounded than Houston’s. Their team defense is much better. And their bench is better. Houston not only needed Harden to come up big, but needed a better 4spot, a 1spot that that forced Indy to defend in that position, better production from the bench, and better team defense.

    Good barometer game.

SMH.... Guys, Beverley is absolutely not the problem. Neither Lin is. Stop blaming all the roster; current problem is not there.
