Yes, yes stop worrying about assets and contracts and all that stuff. Be just like Rudy T and his FO when they awarded huge contracts left and right and paid Cato 42M after one preseason game. Let's stop tracking stats and player performance like Rudy Gay and ban all stat sheets in the locker room. Surely that will lead to an NBA championship because not caring about capspace and contracts and having assets to trade for superstar players is not vital to building a contender.

PS Who cares what Barkley thinks? I'd say that dude could kiss my ass except he already kissed Kenny's

To be fair, wouldn't it be awesome if the Rockets had the following roster instead? 2~3 years ago many here were advocating that we just let everyone develop instead of making trades.

    Brooks/Lowry
    Ariza/CBud/Lamb
    Battier/Parsons
    Scola/Landry/Morris
    Hayes/Patterson

Asik has reason to be upset. He was signed here under the condition that he would be the starter, that's the only reason he left the Bulls that were a winning team at the time, competing for a championship before Rose got hurt.

Asik signed here but never got any kudos from our former greats. He just did his job and helped bring us to the playoffs and a competitive series against the Thunder as the youngest roster in the NBA. The future looked good to him.

Then, we sign Dwight. All of the sudden, everyone related to our organization suddenly decides to come out of hiding in order to greet him, despite being dormant for the last 15 years. Asik was probably not even invited to the Howard introduction ceremony, and even if they did invite could you possibly blame him for not going? The guy felt like he was underappreciated, and rightfully so.

With that said, I think Asik is handling all of this in a very immature fashion. He could still help the team win and prove that the team is more important that himself. Winning a championship should be worth more to him than money, though due to the nature of pro sports these days, I find it highly unlikely he will go this route.

In the end, he was always an asset. Just the same as every other player who Morey brings in. The real concern I have for our franchise moving forward, is that players here don't really feel like they are family here. Most of our players feel like they are expendable assets because that is how our GM operates.

The Spurs on the other hand, make players feel like they own the team. Like they are part of a real family. That is why players love to play for the Spurs, and tend to stick around.

We offered him more money, but we offered him a chance to be our starting center too. He was never going to start over Noah in Chicago, we all know that.

So, its up to you to decide which motivation was a bigger factor in him leaving. Personally, I think Asik would have stayed in Chicago if he knew he was going to be back-up in Houston. Just call it an educated guess.

Starting is very important to Asik. We all know that. If it were just the money, he wouldn't be angry now.

Your statement would still be wrong no matter what. He didn't just leave to be a starter. Maybe Asik believes that coming off the bench effects the value of his next contract (It probably does).

Educated in what motivates Omer Asik? Where did you get that degree?

Yes, absolutely! At least in my experience that is 100% true. Lawyers have strict professional self-enforcement of ethics rules, and besides, they appear in courts, where if caught lying they get their ass handed to them. The MBA types pretty much lie with impunity.

I doubt many will question that Morey - brilliant as he is - comes across as shifty. I mean look at all this saga the last few days. Self-imposed deadline, leaking to Feigan and other media that they had a deal already in place, only that there was no deadline and no deal, just blowing up smoke to get an offer...

The entire legal system (or at least the westminster one) is designed around the idea of the half truth, the better at it you are, the more you get paid, that's why our lawyers and our politicians are usually the same people, it's the same skillset.

No, the legal system is based on the truth. You're confusing the adversarial nature, where each side gets to present a case based on the facts, with half-truths. Each side is entitled to their own interpretation, but not to their own facts...

Now in this case we don't know exactly what was said, but my personal inclination is to trust Omer more than More... :)

Morey's a villain. Someone photo shop his court side picture, and give him a curly mustache, black top hat, and a monocle.

The contract we offered to Asik is poison pill.
That is 15 millions at the 3rd year.
Not too many teams willing to do that kind of deal!

I don't blame Asik to ask for the trade. It is his right!
Basketball at the highest level should be fun and challenging.
Sitting at the bench will diminish that greatly!

Now we have a chemistry issue. How do we integrate him back into the rotation/backup or just let him sit in the bench until Feb 20!

lets cut through the false information here- Omer didn't choose to be here. He was a restricted free agent and the Bulls didn't think he was worth the money, so THEY let him walk. Same scenario as Lin. No decision made by the player. We thought he was worth 25 million when no one else did, and we are still going to pay him that money. Don't understand why he wouldn't just collect a lot more money for the same amount of work he did in Chicago.

It has nothing to do with the amount of money. It has everything to do with signing a contract.

Unlike most jobs, sports jobs are contract jobs. Now that is a good and bad thing. If you have a contract to play, you get paid regardless of whether you can play or not, your play time or role. You can totally stink it up and still get paid (see Eddy Curry and many, many, many others). The bad is, you don't get to pick which team (excluding no-trade clause discussions and FA discussions). Also you might be way underpaid (see Parsons) but you have to keep playing. You can't pout on the bench and expect to get what you want or deserve. And you might have someone signed who is better than you or have a run in with the coach and you don't get the time you once had.

And how smart is it for Asik to want to play for someone else but submarine his value so bad with his attitude and play (or lack thereof) that trading him can't be done? I knew he had brick hands, but I think that disease moved to his brain if he thinks this pouting is going to do anything but hurt his chances of getting moved.

That's the good and the bad of a contract and most handle it like a pro should because the money is outragious. The alternative is to get a real job like the rest of us and you can move around at will. Freedom is never free.

Cut through false information by spreading false information? Better up the caffeine levels this AM.

He (and Lin) signed a contract to play for the Rockets. No one held a gun to his head to sign. He wanted to get paid and he signed to play for the Rockets for $25mm. The fact that the Bulls didn't want to match has nothing to do with Omer not choosing to sign a contract with the Rockets.
