    To the OP-

I'm sure that most people here aren't rejoicing that Asik is staying. Most people probably don't want someone on their team that doesn't want to be there, but what people are rejoicing at is the fact that the team isn't making one of the worst trades of the century that would have set this team back years from being financially able to actually bring in another impact player or two.

Unlike some posters here Morey has some stamina.

Before last year people were saying the Spurs weren't real contenders and were done and they were one fluke 3pter away from winning it all. Just food for thought. The Spurs only have one top 10 player, we have two. When the mavericks won it all they weren't thought of as a serious preseason contender, they also only had one top 10 player.

It can be done with our talent level. That being said our coaching and chemistry likely isn't there yet.

I'm definitely not as optimistic as others that he's going to give full effort. He was OK for awhile when he knew Morey was working the phones trying to get a trade done, but he's most likely angry again now that he didn't end up getting his way. Think there is a good chance we'll just have to send him home, but that's still better than getting stuck with untradeable contracts like Bass and Lee.

I'm just happy we didn't do a bad trade.

Disgruntled Robert Horry and Matt Bullard surely didn't help us win...

Just because the team knows they tried to trade him, does not mean they don't want him back. Listen to Mchale or any of the player's postgame interviews and they all say they miss him on the court and want him back

Worst trade of century? Really has it come down to this.....
    Way to overblow things.
Proposals were underwhelming but not entirely bad.

Here's the thing, Asik's value is likely to climb from this point forward. February is the midway point of the season, and teams are likely going to have a better handle on where their teams are heading for the year (some teams like the Bobcats think they might be good as is). As older, win-now mode owners become more discontent with the direction of their teams this year, it will create more pressure for GMs to make win now moves. Also, major injuries happen ALL THE TIME to big men. The Rockets will be ready.

People know how good Asik can be, the Rockets just didn't have any leverage in this situation.

Also, Courtney Lee and Brandon Bass are bad. Not only are they bad, they have awful contracts. The 14-16 minutes of Asik playing are going to be VASTLY superior than those garbage minutes that Lee/Bass would have provided.

What, always playing for the trade deadline rather than the championship doesn't excite you?

I don't know. Once Dwight got here, all Asik will remember is the sour taste in his mouth. The bridge has been burned halfway.
We can hope he gets it but the rich history of unhappy Euro players and local players tells another story.

I do not want to bet on it so a trade now or in February would be most welcome.

Lee's contract is so bad that it'll take a pick just to get rid off it.

Basically the trade is Bass for Asik. That was what Ainge offered Morey. Players like Bass can be had for free through FA. It may not be the worst trade of the century but it will be Morey's worst trade ever.

Asik gives it his all every time he's on the court.

Furthermore, he's one of the best guys in the NBA.

Eff this thread and Asik hate. Dude just wants too play and has earned the right to do so.

So if Brandon Bass and Lee are so easy to get through FA, why are the only guys we are signing 1 million contracts like Garcia, Casspi and Brooks?

Alright, I get the thought process but it's not as easy as you claim.

This team hasn't gotten an Asik who's 100% committed yet. If he just wants to play then he wouldn't have such a huge issue coming off the bench.

Most of mid-priced FA's are available every year. They are not hotly pursued for good reasons.

Millsap, Hickson, Landry, Calderon, Mayo, Ellis, Jenning, KMart, Jack were all available for FREE for any team with cap space; teams chose them. Bass fits among them.

Lee had seriously under-peroformed for his value and no team in the right mind will sign him for the price of his contract if he were a FA.

Edit: Want to add the once we signed Dwight, the cap was maxed out and can ONLY fill roster with vet min FA's.
