Why wouldn't they? We're all supposed to love a guy who played 30 minutes a night on one end of the court for one season, even as he does his level best to torpedo the first chance the Rockets have had to contend since Hakeem left?

No actual Rockets fan can support Asik.

McHale makes it pretty clear he doesn't favor pretty much any major trades. He wants to keep the core guys together and thinks Asik could be a big part of what Houston does. He says the Pacers are wear he'd love the Rockets to be because they've bonded and been through a lot. He definitely sounds like he likes the mix of guys he has and wants to keep the core guys. I think these are Howard, Harden, Parsons, Lin, Beverley and Asik. I don't think the rest of them are core guys but Brooks is a solid 3rd guard and has a no-trade and does well when a PG is down.

He should have been traded right after rockets signed dwight howard . He had much more value at summer . Almost 1/3 of the season ( and training camp ) has passed , he has a less target value...

It was very obvious that TT experiment wouldn't work on the offensive end simply because omer and dwight are both bad FT shooters . I honestly expected much more on defense but that also didn't work because slow ( and late ) rotations...

I really hated Omer being unprofessional . There's nothing wrong with his wish to be traded , but he needed to continue to play and give his maximum effort . But I blame more Rockets management for not trading him in summer , even now . Unfortunately his value has really dropped and I'm not sure if any team would request his services ...

Simmons was calling out the pundits calling out Morey for not pulling the trigger on the best (crap) deal available and being delusional with his asking price.

Considering that Boston just offered us two players whose long-term contracts they were trying to dump and a crap protected pick for Asik, I think Simmons was right on the money: Morey was obviously delusional and asking for too much. I mean, really? Two whole crap Grantland writers? That ought to be worth a little more than a bag of chips! Surely not, Mr. Morey, you be cra-cra for asking for so much!

Correct. Any player acquired in a trade (whether before or after this week) can be traded again BY HIMSELF at any time prior to the trade deadline.

For example, a few days before the February trade deadline in 2004, the Atlanta Hawks traded for Rasheed Wallace. Only a few days later, the Hawks shipped Wallace (by himself, not in a package with other player) off to Detroit. And we all know how that turned out for the Pistons.

(Also, xiki, if you have a question for me, please try to use the phrase "Bima" instead of "BT". I do periodic searches of the BBS for "Bima*" to see if anyone has questions for me. I don't search for "BT" and only happened to notice this in passing.)

I have no problem with him requesting a trade, but I do have a problem with the way that he went about doing it.

-Literally minutes after the Rockets were announced as the team that would sign Dwight, Asik's agent went to ESPN and publicly demanded a trade
-Immediately after being sent to the bench, he went public yet again
-Omer refused to play shortly after, and had a few games were he simply did not give effort on the court.

The truth is the moment Omer went out and publicly demanded to be traded, his value went to crap. I for one wrote many times on here that the Summer was the worst time to trade him because -

-A. Teams just signed new free agents
-B. Players are NOT injured in August
-C. EVERYONE thinks they are a contender in August
-D. Every GM wants to see their young bigs in action first
-E. Some teams dont think they are a contender, and dont have an urgency to win-now.

I thought, as Morey probably thought, that the trade deadline in February was the best time to trade Omer. In the meantime, they probably thought they could work with Omer to help boost his value on the court by improving offensively to play a few spots here and there next to Dwight, and then something would open up where a team really feels like are on the cusp and trade for Omer with a bunch of picks and some talent.

However, Omer's trade demands in the public, and the failed twin towers experiment put Morey in a horrible trade scenario with zero leverage.

Had Omer said all the right things and played his butt off, but behind closed doors said that he would love to have the opportunity to be a starter somewhere, and would like to be moved.... he probably would have already been moved.

So is "Murray" a god or something.... no. But the guy is smart enough to walk and chew gum at the same time, and knows how to handle negotiations for making deals. Omer & Andy Miller obviously did not.. which is the reason why Omer is still a Rocket, Morey had to sludge through months of BS offers from GM's trolling, and Omer's value plummeted to an all-time low.

Sorry but this ones on Omer & Andy Miller. They are the ones who plummeted his value to where even the greatest GM that ever lived couldn't get a deal that didn't kill their team.

    Mchale's interview after practice 12/19/13

"I never thought asik was going to be traded"

"look i'm looking forward to getting jeremy back and asik back getting some games together under our belt as a group"

“Asik will be a big part of our success, and there will be a lot of nights where that 2nd big body out there banging with Dwight will give you an advantage, and we need that”

I'm worried people are going to confuse you and I because of the almost identical names.

I do agree Asik's value has dropped since last year. People are fooling themselves if they don't understand that.

Morey gambled by not trading Asik after he got Dwight in the summer. It failed now he has to face the reality. I am just glad he didn't bite on that ridiculous Celtics offer.

Hopefully Asik can man up and do what he does best and disrupt the court on the defensive end. So he can gain that value back. Asik now knows his pouting has screwed his bargaining power.

Harden was more forthcoming about Asik than Lin was. Lin said he wouldn't speak for him and he's injured, a professional and they don't let the outside chatter enter the locker room. Harden said Asik is great for the team, one of the best big men in the game especially defensively and they needed him in the second unit. He said although Asik didn't like that role, he'll have to embrace it.

That was my weak attempt at impersonating the neanderthal writers calling Morey's asking price crazy. Unfortunately I was apparently not very good at it due to inexperience (then again, maybe I have succeeded too well at the incomprehensibility aspect of it).

There is more to defense than just post defense...search my posts and I listed centers that I would take above him. He's too much of a liability on offense and cannot guard centers that have range...he also isnt athletic enough to be a good weakside defender.

So no, he's absolutely not a top center...but yes, he is definitely good enough to start on an NBA team. That's far removed from the "he's a top 3 NBA center" that we get around here.
