    The Rumor Mill

Now that the rumor mill is dead - everyone can get back to work.

As much as I'd like add a back up small forward or guard, there is no reason to settle for a poor deal. Everyone needs a center - especially teams that are looking to win. We have 28 games between now and the trade deadline. I'll bet they'll come back with another offer for Asik with the spotlight off and offer us more of what we need.

Personally, I think I'd like that to be a small forward or guard. Too many miles and minutes for Parsons.

Overall though, we have the luxury of being a playoff contender that primarily needs to get healthy and grow in its teamwork.

Defensive effort is a bit of need too. I think if @JHarden13's ankles can't handle the stress, we should play some else who's hungry to get in a defensive stance.

And could we please challenge someone & take them out of what they want to do out of a time out? You can find better effort at the Y that at Toyota Center.

There is nothing wrong with asik. When he had to play he plays. He just wants to be a starter on a team which is fair considering he is one. He's not a loud mouth he doesn't go on twitter rampages. Only people that know him tell the media he wants out.

It's probably not good from a career perspective to be seen as a selfish malcontent.

No, more than 90% of CF apparently still severely underrates Asik. Incredible defensive anchors are gamechangers, and Morey is valuing Asik exactly as Morey ought: Very very very highly.

Those posters and the GMs bad enough not to already have such an important piece on their teams are simply not operating at Morey's cognitive level.

    ;)

This situation is the other end of treating players like assets. However, as long as Asik is cashing his checks, he needs to be a professional and do his job. Until he mans up, he doesn't deserve better. He already has his $$$$. I will be in his side when I hear he is returning the money.

To get out of Houston, he needs to try to pad his rebounding stats as part of the second unit.

You forgot to mention that he grabbed more rebounds than any player last season.

Morey is to blame here....? you got to be kidding me...? the guy transformed this organization from lottery team to a contender in 2 years and you blaming him because he didn't trade Asik in the off-season...???
no you have to blame Asik for acting like child and requesting a trade, it's pretty obvious that he cares about padding his own stats on a scruby team rather being on a championship team and possibly winning a ring.

Meh.. Morey loses a little face with GM's and the media.... but you do not make a bad deal just to make a deal. Asik still has value to the Rockets if Howard is hurt or in foul trouble.

At this early point in the season, I see no need to push a trade. Most teams still have healthy big men and in the Eastern Conference it's still to early to tell what teams are out of it or in it for playoff contention. By the trade deadline I believe two things will happen that will work out for both the Rockets and Omer Asik.

    1. Other teams will inevitably have injurys to their big men opening holes in their squad to a perceived need for a starting caliber Center.

    2. The Eastern Conference playoff seeding will become more solidified. The top 5-6 teams will pull a bit away from the pack, leaving 4-5 teams to vie for the last 2-3 playoff slots. This will lead some GMs to be more willing to part with future assets, what Morey wants, for a possible trip to the playoffs, what Omer wants.

On a side note, I don't believe Morey thinks Omer is the key piece in getting his 3rd superstar. He sees Omer as the piece who will land him the valuable picks that will make a future trade possible.

I personally believe that Terrence Jones is the better trade piece. The way he is playing this year will give us a better shot at making a team, for example, like the Timberwolves more likely to move Kevin Love. They have a legit Center in Pekovic, but giving them a player like TJones in return plus valuable future picks and expiring contracts will be more likely to get done.

    Time to play hardball.

I like Asik but tell him he is going to sit out the remainder of his contract because we can't find a taker for his contract.

I'd say we love him as a player and we would love for him to play 20-30 minutes, but this is the best we can do.

I believe Morey's thinking was that he would get better value and better trade options in Dec than he did in the summer, and that Asik's trade value would be higher now than it was in the summer. Looks like Morey might have been wrong, but Asik contributed to lowering his own value by sulking and not playing, barring the recent injuries.

That said, Morey still has until tomorrow and then between tomorrow and Feb to get a deal done. He just may not get back the value he wanted.

He is also a superior rebounder, very good pick-and-roll defender, and rim-protector (even if its not apparent from the shot block numbers). A good screener as well.

I think Asik has the potential to be an All-Star but I hate how CFs just cream over our players.

Face the facts. Asik's current market value is Lee & Bass (+ no picks)... that's all.

“He will be a big part of our success, and there will a lot of nights where were that 2nd big body out there banging with Dwight will give you an advantage, and we need that”
