Oh man, that was a joke quite in line with what goes up on Clutchfans every day. That part of the translation was tongue in cheek, referring to what Clutchfans knows as Harden's personal taste.

妹子 means sister or girl. I just added what we know Harden prefers. Creative license maybe misapplied.

But yeah, you sound a bit more sensitive than LOFs with the 'racism' outcry.

You don't even know what year it is. 2013, not 2008 or 1999.

Here's a Chongqing newspaper report for you

    http://www.cqwb.com.cn/cqwb/html/2013-11/19/content_372562.htm

    前又传出火箭可能以林书豪和阿西克为筹码,从凯尔特人换来朗多。虽然未经证实,但此消息已经掀起舆论热潮,大部分球迷表示,火箭此举是作茧自缚,不少网友更是直接:“如果没有林书豪,我们再也不看火箭了!”

I'll translate the key part, too much is too hard for me. "Many internet fans direct say if no Jeremy Lin, we won't watch the Rockets".

    因为无论在尼克斯还是火箭,林书豪都拥有极高的人气,特别是亿万名中国粉丝。

No matter on the Knicks or the Rockets, Lin has high popularity, especially hundreds of millions of Chinese fans.

    从某门户网站的调查来看,虽然有9成网友支持交易火箭阿西克,但是几乎所有的人都反对送走林书豪。

From a certain website poll, even though 90% support trading Asik, almost all are against trading Lin.

    --------------

I agree with Tinman that these people who would not watch the Rockets can be classified as 'not' real rockets fans. But unlike Tinman, I won't pretend Lin doesn't have any impact on the Rockets popularity in China, its TV ratings and telecast, and the total number of 'active' Rockets fans in China.

Hope this is clear enough for him.

So if Lin is hurt like he is now, do they turn the TV cameras for them so they can watch him pick his nose?

Don't say you're translating stuff when you're not. Now you're saying you just added what "we know" as a joke. Who's this "we"? Are you Harden's friend or what? The "booty" thing came out of your mind, that's all, and you misled torocan, for example.

You decided not to translate the 1128 votes part, for some reason. That was the size of a CF poll.

You keep on pretending you're a translator in this thread, with a new "translation" that pulls something out of context.

Look, if it's "too hard" for you, don't do it. How do you know what "the key part" is if it's too hard for you?

You're disingenuous: it's too hard but you know the key part; you threw a joke into the translation coz we all know it's true anyway. Here, it's not "too hard" for me, and I won't throw any jokes in.

    NBA很多买卖都是流言先行,比如魔兽霍华德加盟火箭,日前又传出火箭可能以林书豪和阿西克为筹码,从凯尔特人换来朗多。虽然未经证实,但此消息已经掀起舆论热潮,大部分球迷表示,火箭此举是作茧自缚,不少网友更是直接:“如果没有林书豪,我们再也不看火箭了!”

"Many NBA trades are rumored in advance, for example Dwight Howard joining the Rockets. A few days ago it was rumored the Rockets might use Jeremy Lin and Asik as a bargaining chip to exchange for the Celtics' Rondo. Though still unproven, this news has set off a wave of public opinion. Most basketball fans say the Rockets would be hurting themselves, and many internet posters say directly: 'If they don't have Lin, we won't watch the Rockets!'"

Next time you can be the translator, because you're much better at it than me.

I'll just throw the big booty in joke afterwards, and post the image of James Harden and the big booty (both) in white that we've all seen numerous times on this site.

As for sample sizes, Torocan can say more about this if he wants.

Typically over 1,000 is a release table sample assuming it is properly sampled. A 1,000 poll on clutchfans (which I don't think we actually get on clutchfans, but I'll play along as I could be wrong) is very representative of the segment of sports fans here just as a 1,000 poll on jeremylin.net is representative of the profile there.

On Hupu.com which I think is a general basketball site that isn't affiliated with any NBA basketball teams or has any geographical background, the profile would be basketball fans that care enough to spend time to chat, argue and browse about the NBA. Pretty much the target market for the NBA. It should be a non-biased segment, basically fans that care enough about the Rockets but those that doesn't have a biased representation like jeremylin.net.

So I'd take it as fairly representative with some standar deviation of error, but even if you want to use say two standard deviations on this 1,000+ sample size, the result is still quite conclusive that Jeremy Lin staying with or leaving the Rockets will have a big impact on its following.

We're talking difference in multiples between will not follow vs will continue to follow.

And how's your translation different to mine in essence? Ie Jeremy Lin being traded will have a big impact on Chinese fans following the Rockets?

And regarding your comments. I said too hard because 1) I can translate the essence of the words but these are pretty poor by official translation standards, and 2) it's too hard for me to translate the whole article word by word. For example my Chinese is not good enough for me to translate 作茧自缚 properly, but I can tell it is negative for the Rockets.

So basically I took out the parts which is related to how trading Lin may impact the Rockets in terms of fan following. I don't think there's any out of contextness. Please show me if there was, and let clutchfans know which part of the article was was there anything implied that trading Jeremy Lin would not impact the Rockets or the Chinese fanbase's views towards the Rockets.

I'm certain if there was, with your much better translation abilities you would be able to dig them out and put me to shame. As opposed to just say I pulled things out of context without proving it.

Just don't tell me to prove CCTV focuses their camera on Jeremy Lin picking his nose in the bench. That's an argument only Tinman's can fabricate to prove Lin has no impact on Chinese fans.

Lin fans always do this. They take little falsehoods and build them up gradually like a stone wall. Someone quotes a BS story from Reddit quoting facebook and if it doesn't get strongly refuted then three weeks later people quote it as fact.

You make up this "booty" thing and torocan takes it as fact and then three weeks later both you and torocan are saying "Even in China they talk about Harden's booty love." But it's just invented by you.

As for sample size: the claim that started our whole exchange was about how many people like Lin. Someone claimed 100,100 fans responded to a poll; I asked for a link; you gave a link to 1128 fans, and did not translate that part. So in this case, the support you gave was 100 times smaller than the original claim. Also, it was 10% off the original claim. If I don't refute that strongly, then two weeks later people are quoting it as fact: "100,000 Chinese have spoken!" And now you act like you forgot the whole context of this thread. Trace back our responses to this:

My translation is different from yours because the context of the quote is about Lin and Asik being traded for Rondo. The whole thing seems less credible in that context. "There's a huge wave of reaction about Lin being traded to the Celtics for Rondo." Wow, big news there.

Where was your translation faked? You made up the stuff about Harden thinking of booty. You neglected to translate that the poll you quoted was 100 times smaller than what was originally mentioned. You also didn't show that all the upset LOF's in China are in a frenzy about a Lin-Asik for Rondo trade, which just shows how out of touch they are to begin with.

Whatever, given that you can't refute the poll and that sample size being meaningful, you want to make this a big booty issue. Fine. But Harden's big booty issue had no bearing on the poll, and the statistical relevance if the results of the poll, which you and Tinman are clearly running away from.

And given your translation abilities, I'm sure you can tell the article never said Lin and Asik was traded for Rondo. It was on the possibility/rumor that was circulated, upon which the poll was done and people's comments posted.

And you not Tinman can refute, no matter how you look at it, trading Lin will have an impact on the Rockets' popularity in China, which was the original context of this conversation and not big booty (which is how you're trying to stir this).

I'm glad you mentioned it's not 100,100 although the article did allude to another poll which I didn't search for. So you've set that right.

Now are you willing to admit to the statistical significance of a smaller sample size but with the results nonetheless clearly refuting you/Tinman's claims that Lin being traded has no impact on the Rockets popularity in China, despite my poor translation, Tinman's nose picking Tag Heuer ad and Chinese dual language (if you can call it that) drinks menu generating abilities?

And in terms of our of contextness, can you go further than nose picking, Chinese drinks menu and Tag Heuer ads?

And don't say it's just one comment by one person.

This is an official article written by Tencent which is one of the biggest Internet portals in China.

    http://xw.qq.com/c/sports/20131113010086

They actually use 夜店登 as part of the article title.

And this article in China actually has the James Harden in white image.

    http://sports.sina.com.cn/nba/2013-01-12/01056373940.shtml

You may care to translate that, although personally I wouldn't. As it is unsubstantiated. I would consider it an exaggerated false report.
