I have no idea if any one else notices, but Shandon played small forward most of the game when he was scoring and Stevie was playing shooting guard most of the time and look what happened Shandon came out of his slump and Stevie had a career night. Now I think that if we moved shandon anderson to small forward we would get more out of him, because for those of you who didn't know or forgot Shandon played sf for the Jazz and he was pretty good. Now I'm not suggesting we put Stevie at Shooting Guard all the time, just suggesting we rotate him from point to Shooting Guard. 1st Line Up: Stevie Cuttino Shandon Mo Taylor Hakeem 2nd line up: Moochie Stevie Cuttino or Shandon Kenny or Mo Hakeem, Los, Cato*, or Collier* *=when they come back So when Shandon gets tired bring in Moochie for Shandon or if Mobley get tired bring in Moochie for Him. Or Just bring in Walt Williams for Shandon. Now you can see how productive Shandon can be when he plays his natural position-small forward. ------------------ -Junkyard Dog "Maybe we need an enema" - Othella Harrington (former pf for the Rockets)
That's been the plan when other teams want to play small ball, but I haven't seen it be very effective against the bigger lineups like Portland. The thing is, when Rudy goes small we need to make teams matchup to us and exploit their weaknesses instead of letting them exploit ours. ------------------ Five to one baby, one and five...no one here gets, out alive.
Good to see you posting JYD! Steve does look good at the 2. But if you want to get technical, I would say Shandon played mostly PF last night: the lineup for the last 18 minutes or so was Bullard and 4 guards (with Shandon easily the 2nd biggest guy we had out there). Of course, Mooch was our post-up threat down the stretch... ------------------ I don't want to achieve immortality through my work... I want to achieve immortality by not dying. - Woody Allen
what i was saying was that Shandon use to play Small forward and that's his natural position and that he gets more productive minutes. I didn't mean put moochie at point for ever cause that's the only thing small about that line up We could play: Pg Stevie SG Cuttino (natural positon) SF Shandon (natural position) PF Mo Taylor (natural position) C Hakeem (natural position) The only person in that line up that isn't playing their original postion is Stevie, but that's because he wants to play point. ------------------ -Junkyard Dog "Maybe we need an enema" - Othella Harrington (former pf for the Rockets)
Where is the Wizard? and your "natural" positions are debatable. I view Steve as a one, Shandon as a two. Mo as a starting forward is also debatable. ------------------ snap crackle pop
I think positions are over-rated and that Shandon would have played just as good last night as point guard or even as center. The bottom line is moving the ball legally and playing "keep away" from the other team while trying to get it in the proper basket. No matter what position you are playing , simply playing hard is what brings on points and inevitably - wins. Just ask Stevie. My humble opinion. ROckS ------------------
It never hurt the Rockets when Elie was playing SF and he was only 6'5" tall. I think the Rockets should put the BEST players on the court at the same time. SA, Cat, Francis, Dream, Mo? My starting 5. DaDakota ------------------ If Mankind evolved from Monkeys and Apes, then why are there still Monkeys and apes?
I like DaDakota's aproach I think who ever is best for the job at that position should be out there and right now I think Shandon Anderson is a better Small Forward than he is a Shooting Guard, But Mo Taylor needs to step up and run the floor I mean there is no reason why he should be behind Stevie for a fast break its not like he's under the basket waiting for a rebound on the defensive end. ------------------ -Junkyard Dog "Maybe we need an enema" - Othella Harrington (former pf for the Rockets)
Playing people out of position is okay...sometimes, but there are times when you need to stay towards natural positions. Certain things will just not work. Our play against the Blazers should be proof enough. Our small guard lineup doesn't work that well against their taller more power oriented lineup. And when we play San Antonio, I don't think the smaller lineup will work since all the Spurs will do is leave Duncan and Robinson down low to make up for any mistakes and easily exploit our lack of size. Just because Shandon finally broke out of his slump doesn't mean things need to change. Was anyone saying this when Rudy did the same thing in previous games? Was Shandon playing better, socring more, when this happened before? ------------------ Little O
What about when Cato comes back? One can argue that Mo's is much more of a scoring threat than Cato, but Cato bring alot more athleticism and energy to the court. He also allows Hakeem to slide to the PF slot. Any thoughts? ------------------ Five to one baby, one in five...no one here gets, out alive.
Dakota, the Rockets had a 6-7 SG by the name of Clyde Drexler back then who could match up against the bigger wing men. A 6-4 Mobley with a 6-6 Anderson is just a really small 2-3 combo, and I feel it is important to bring Cuttino's spark off the bench. When the Rockets get off to slow starts it is a nice luxury to have a tempo changer like Mobley coming off the bench. I have also noticed that this lineup hasnt been on the floor as much as one would expect this season and instead Rudy has elected to go with a shooter like Walt Williams or Matt Bullard. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
Last nights game reminded me of the last part of last season. We had some injuries and Rudy played Walt at PF and even C. We have quickness that few teams can compete with. I know that the bigger teams will give us fits, but not as much as you might expect. Big men get frustrated with little guards swarming them. They turn the ball over and get lot's of fouls trying to keep their man in front of them. I say damn the PF position. Trade Mo and start Carlos. Let KT back him up or vice-versa. Trade Kelvin. Let Hakeem start and bring Collier in to set the big picks. Rebounding is quickness, instinct, and positioning. Just ask Charles or Dennis. One big man is all we need on the court. If you don't believe me, then just look at some game tapes from last year and last night. Remember, I'm not talking a dynasty or even the finals. I am talking 4th seed though. I'm not sure what the answer is but I do know that last nights game was awesome to watch. If we can exploit the other teams lack of quickness, then bring it on!!!!!!!!! ------------------ "Stranger things have happened, but none stranger than this" - Commentator after a parachutist landed in the ring of a Holyfield fight
Not for the Jazz my friend! He came on to spell Hornacek and whenever he played Horny would be sitting! Like MManal said, we NEED an explosive presence from the bench to bring that scoring punch inot the game. Mobley is happy to do it so why not stick with it? Shandon's had a bad month or so, but I think we all saw how well he fits in with this ball club last year, so let the man play ball!! ------------------
russel and keefe played at the 3. last night we played mooch, steve, cuttino, shandon, and bull. we can afford to do that sometimes, but if we make it to the playoffs i dont think we can pull a surprise against hte big teams like the blazers, spurs, and lakers. shaq vs. Bull, TD vs. Bull, Wallace vs Bull. AGGHH
Hey Vj, replace Bull with Hakeem in those situations and we'd be in great shape. Shaq will abuse him but he abuses everyone (although he looks like he's slipping). I'd let Hakeem defend Duncan, KG, Rashees, SAR, and whatever other big men you can think of. ------------------ "Stranger things have happened, but none stranger than this" - Commentator after a parachutist landed in the ring of a Holyfield fight
