It's great that Bev got 11 boards to balance the rebounding, but it's only hiding the real problem. Aldridge got 25 rebounds!! Jones was getting tooled. Howard doesn't box out as often as he should to try and get blocks. This means Jones really needs to put the effort on boxing guys out, which is not happening.
This is not exclusive information. If you can't see from watching the games that Bev is the only one with the green light, maybe this quote from this article will enlighten you: Source: http://spacecityscoop.com/2013/10/17/houston-rockets-patrick-beverley-showing-unique-sense-rebounding/
I've been very disappointed with Beverley's shooting. His defense is good, but it is not worth it by itself to keep him in the rotation if his shooting doesn't get back to where he needs to be. I know he was banged up early, but I'm surprised his shooting hasn't come around yet.
I think Bev expends so much energy playing his frenetic pressure defense and making hustle plays that sometimes he doesn't have the legs for his 3 point shot. Just a theory, though.
His shooting has regressed because he is asked to play starter minutes with a game that is more suited for backup / energy minutes off the bench. Anyone without an agenda should be able to see that.
It's not my fault you don't follow the team or watch the interviews etc. Lin was grabbing plenty of rebounds last season and I remember an interview from the coaches to the effect that he needed to get back and cover cause that was his job. After that you didn't see Lin contesting for rebounds as much and always looking to get back when plays broke down. There is also a link provided for you by another poster above where Mchale clearly states that they are giving Beverly exceptional freedom to chase rebounds. It must be great to be Beverly on this team. You have no expectations to contribute offensively. You don't even have to get back, just go for the rebound. Just hustle and hustle and even if you get destroyed by HOFers like Reggie Jackson or Isiah Thomas you know you will still be the starter and play 35-40 minutes a night while having the complete and unshakable support of all 'True Rockets Fans.' Lin needs to be traded so that all the people on here that are defending Beverly and Mchale cuz they are afraid of getting their egos bruised by LOFs saying I told you so can finally start caring more about the team again, instead of being fanatical cheerleaders for any PG not named Jeremy Lin.
My agenda is that I can look at splits and see that his 3 point shooting is basically the same whether he plays less than 20 (.333), 20 to 29 (.333), or 30 to 39 (.339). He does only shoot .300 in games that he plays over 40 minutes. Myth debunked.
His 3 point shooting seems to be around his career average. So I'm not sure it's fair to call it a regression. I think Beverely is a fantastic player to have on any team at his current contract. He is a great spark of the bench, can play intense D for 25 minutes without worrying about fouling and can make some big plays and knock down the open shot from time to time. Maybe if he improves with time he could be good enough to be a solid starter, but he clearly isn't there yet.
His career 3pt average is 20 points higher than it is this year. His career 3 pt average before this season was nearly 40 points higher. Playing good defense, being a great offensive rebounder for a PG, and a good 3 point shooter is good enough to be a starter. He was a good 3 point shooter last year. He is bad this season. Maybe last year was just a hot year for him and this is the norm to expect. I don't know. 3 point shooting is a big thing the Rockets look for in a PG from what I can tell (I am fully aware that the Rockets will likely trade for Rondo as soon as I hit "submit reply"). With Canaan in the D League, Beverley may be fighting for PT at the end of the year if he doesn't start shooting threes like last year.
Canaan shoots roughly 40% from 3. The team already as a guard shooting 40% from three...he was relegated to the bench, so I doubt Canaan will be taking any PT from PB.
Probably because last year he was coming off the bench and this year he is playing against other starters?
Lin wasn't "relegated" to the bench because he is shooting the three better than Beverley this season. Right now, Lin has outplayed Beverley by a good margin unlike last season in which I would have given a slight edge to Beverley. You could be right. I don't catch every game, but his shots don't seem to be contested more playing other starters in games I've seen. To me, it seems he is just missing a lot of open or lightly contested threes.
Bev is just streaky. Last season he started out shooting well. Later on he shot worse and worse actually. Right now he's about the same as last couple of months of last season. January .412 February .400 March .375 April .318
I didn't mean to imply Lin was benched because he is shooting better, but rather he isn't taking any more minutes from PBev even though he is shooting near 40%. I don't see Canaan providing anything more than what Lin can...so if Lin isn't taking minutes away from PBev, then I doubt Canaan will. Unless, of course, there is a conspiracy against Lin..........
Lin is already getting starter minutes (30+ ) when healthy. Lin isn't going to steal Beverley's minutes because it is probably better for Rockets to not overplay Lin. When Canaan comes up, his PT is most likely to come from Beverley unless you think it is better that Canaan get PT from Lin.
