Either start Lin, or bring in a new starting PG, Bev ain't cuttin' it.

Actually while that's intuitively true, but when you look at minutes distribution it isn't true.

    48 minutes in a game
Harden plays 40 minutes per game
Lin plays 30 minutes per game

8 minutes with Harden off the floor, during which Lin plays

That leaves 22 minutes which Lin will be playing with Harden regardless. So whether those minutes start at Tip off or 6 minutes in, it's the same number of minutes with both on the floor.

Unless you're playing Lin for reduced minutes, the touches for Harden are the same whether you start Lin or bring him in later. The real issue is whether you jump into a lead from tip off or not.

In other words, Beverley starting is irrelevant to the number of minutes that Lin plays with Harden. There was no mathematical reason to NOT start Lin since you can play him when Harden is off the floor regardless.

That is not necessary true. Harden has been playing 40mins a game. When Lin is in the game with the second units he is not even the primary ball handler.

Only problem is that maybe Harden shouldn't be touching the ball as much as he is because he's not the PG. Maybe the whole offense will be better off if he played more SG than PG.

We already know it is not because Lin can be the primary ball handler with the second units since Harden is playing major minutes regardless. The only reason Lin is not starting is because he is not on the Rocket's long term plan. You don't want to start him and ship him out and mess up the team's chemistry with the first unit.

Or, the "second unit" needed him more. I don't know if the Rockets have made up their minds about Lin being in their long-term plans. They have a whole season and 3/4s to assess that.

Hey this "only-fan" thing basically only exist here. It's the most idiotic thing of all time. I was hoping it would die out when Tmac/Lin left/retired but for some odd reason this forum likes to keep it.

The funniest thing is all these Lin haters with ids from 2012 and 2013 calling people only-fans when they only created an id simply to hate on Lin.

Beverly is the worst starting PG in the whole NBA who is healthy and actually plays starter minutes. It's not even close.

Bev is a player who is a borderline 3rd string PG who is lucky to even be in the league but because of hatred for Lin he is lionize and anyone questioning why a scrub like him is starting gets labeled some idiotic name.

90% of the time he stinks on offense, 5% he contributes something and is not terrible, 5% he is above average.

    On Defense

40% he is pretty good, 30% he is avg, 30 he is terrible.

There is nothing special about Beverly and ever fan base would question why a scrub like him is the starting PG when 2 much better PGs are on the roster.

Brooks is only 28 and in his prime. Why is he not starting? He was the starting PG for the Rockets best season in over a decade when the team won 53 games and beat the Blazers in the 1st round and lost to the Lakers in the 2nd round.

The fact Brooks is not starting while a complete scrub like Bev is starting is mind-blowing. And the fact people try to claim Bev is a "legendary defender" when he is in fact just a situational defender who often gets destroyed by avg PG is another thing the boggles the mind.

    12/15 against the Kings
    Bev 31 minutes
    Isiah Thomas scored 19 points on 7/12, 58 FG%

    12/4 against the Suns
    Bev 42 minutes
    Bledsoe/Dragic scored 39 points on 13/25, 52 FG%

    12/2 against the Jazz
    Bev 38 minutes
    Burke/Burks scored 42 points on 19/29, 65.5 FG%

    11/30 against the Spurs
    Bev 37 minutes
    Parker scored 27 points on 13/27, 48.1 FG%

    11/20 against the Mavs
    Bev 37 min
    Calderon/Larkin scored 21 points on 7/13, 53.8 FG%

    11/16 against the Nuggets
    Bev 27 minutes
    Lawson 28 points on 11/19, 57.8 FG%

    11/13 against the Sixers
    Bev 42 minutes
    Andersen 36 points on 12-16, 75 FG%
    Wroten 18 points, 10 reb, 11 asts

Who did the incredible Bev stop?

If Bev was starting for any of the 29 teams in the league 90% of their fan base would ask why. If Lin wasn't here probably 100% of the members here would be asking why Brooks is not starting.

I guess Bev got his "legendary Defense" reputation because he clumsily ran into a Westbrook who was clearly calling a time out and caused an all nba PG to miss the rest of the playoffs with knee problems and might have caused the Thunder the title last year.

Then Bev played "great" defense against 2 scrub back up PGs who rarely plays because Westbrook is one of the top PGs in the whole NBA and up to that point never missed games and played heavy minutes. Now how did the legendary defender do against these 2 scrub back-up PGs after Westbrook was ruled out of the series. Be mindful one of the scrub was a 39 year old Fisher who is 1 foot in retirement.

    Game 4
    Beverly played 37 minutes
    Reggie Jackson, 18 points, 7-18, 39 FG%
    Derrick Fisher, 12, points, 4-7, 57 FG%
    PGs 30 points, 44% FG

    Game 5
    Beverly played 39 minutes
    Jackson, 20 points, 7-15, 47 FG%
    Fisher, 8 points, 2-6, 33.3 FG%
    PGs 28 points, 42.8 FG%

    Games 6
    Jackson, 17 points, 7-15, 46.6 FG%
    Fisher, 11 points, 4-6, 66.66 FG%
    PGs, 28 points 52.3 FG%

So basically the Thunder got roughly 29 ppg on 45% FG% from their seldom used backup PGs against the legendary defender.

Exactly. I don't get this whole myth of a "second unit" when you only have an eight or nine man rotation and your SG plays 48 minutes. By not starting, Lin has nearly the same impact on the game, but he's not in the televised starting lineup and he is below the radar to facilitate an easier trade. I just hope Morey is able to pull a trade off soon or it's going to be a long year and a half.

Could be Asik's value is not what the FO hoped and Lin gets added to sweeten the deal. But I think the over/under on Lin's trade is this year's deadline in February.

Meant to say 40 minutes for the SG.

And Lin (if not already decided), may give the Rockets about a season (probably less) to see if they're in his long term plans.

This idea that Bev is some defensive juggernaut is just confirmation bias based on his scrappiness.

He really shut down IT last night didn't he?

If you actually watch him play D objectively you can see he's average. He gets blown by plenty and gets caught on screens easily, and his positional D is also not that great.

Like last game vs Portland, everyone kept saying how Bev "shut down" Lillard, when in reality if you watch the game Lillard was blowing by Bev relatively easily, he was just either missing open looks or getting blocked by other help defenders.

Bev is a 1-way player. He gives you zilch on offense and uses all his energy on D. He tries very hard on D and I'm proud of him for giving 100% effort on D but he is overall slightly above avg on D. Against small/quick PGs he can be quite good but against taller/stronger PGs, Bev is a complete scrub on D. Even no name scrubs light him up. Lin is better on D against these stronger/taller PGs than Bev.

Bev just gets credit when he doesn't deserve it. Most fans will just repeat Bev had lock-down D in the playoffs against the Thunder but in reality 2 back up PG who shared minutes because their superstar Westbrook was out was able to drop 29 ppg on 45+ FG%. Mind you our superstar Harden shot a much worst FG % than their 2 back up PGs against the "legendary Bev".

SugarLand, do you ever get tired of posting about Bev? He is literally the only thing you ever post about (except after GSW, when you disappeared). Are there any other aspects of the Rockets that interest you?

The minute Lin leaves, people here will be clamoring for either his replacement or Brooks to start.

Bev is the worst starting PG in the whole NBA and we have 2 decent PGs who are proven NBA caliber starting PGs. Brooks was the starting PG for our best season in over a decade where the Rockets won mid 50s games, won a playoff series, and lost in the 2nd round in 7 games.

Anyone who is a REAL Rockets fan would be concern about the PG position. It is the most glaring weakness.

If Bev was starting for any team in the whole NBA 99% of all threads and comments from their fans would be why.

Obviously, many, many people disagree with you... but that wasn't my question. I just find it interesting that you post about absolutely nothing else. I mean NOTHING else. Ever.

Yeah I post about absolutely nothing else except for Bev who has been on this team less than 1 full NBA season. See how dumb your comment is but coming from a "fan" like you it is not surprising.

I like Asik. Think he played balls out and was amazing for us last season. I agree with Morey that without Asik the Rockets do not make the playoffs for the 4th year in a row. I think Asik did nothing wrong and he is a top 5 NBA center. I think any top 5 NBA center would be upset and demand a trade if their team got a top 4 center then asked him to be a backup playing 15 mpg.

Now is that "ONLY" Bev. You lin haters are too much.

I'm obviously talking about during the time I've been posting here. Two questions for you:

    1. What is a "fan like me?"
    2. What makes me a Lin hater?

ETA: Keep in mind that I've said repeatedly that Lin is a better all-around PG and I'd prefer Bev playing fewer minutes off the bench. Am I a Lin hater just because I question your incessant Bev bashing? It's OK if that's your answer -- just curious. :)

Everyone knows Bev is a scrub is should be fighting to stay in the NBA as a 3rd string PG.

Not many people really disagrees with me. They hate Lin. They hate his fans so they defend Bev but that doesn't mean they think he is any good.

I would say less than 1% would call Bev even avg on Offense.

On Defense I have shown he is over-rated. When 2 no-name backup PGs who don't even play can share PG duties and drop 29 ppg on 45+ FG% on Bev that shows he is nothing special on D as well.

This season is very early and yet I can produce a list of games Bev was destroyed on D. Mind you he missed several games due to injury and didn't play starter minutes several more games which is not included in the list. He only played great D a handful of games while he was a zero on Offense pretty much the whole season with a pathetic PER

I was just defending Asik YESTERDAY. Was that during your time here?

You create an account this year then have the nerve to claim people who have posted for years are only fans smh.

We have 99ers who are outraged Bev is starting and mention it on their own personal blogs and get bashed by new members on here.

All this to defend a PG (Bev) who is statistically the worst PG in the league
