How does a point guard become a good "playmaker" if Harden is the defacto point guard who handles the ball most of the time? Lin or Bev passing the ball to Harden and standing in the corner is obviously by design. I'm not sure how Rondo would help us become a better team in that design. In fact - things might get worse.

Harden can listen to Rondo but not Lin and Bev. They are scrubs and Rondo is star in Rockets eyes.

Is it possible boston takes a straight trade for lin and rondo? i'm not sure how much rondo is making right now.

i don't see lins injury being a problem, as rondo is coming off of one also, thats not really serious.

I'm all for Rondo! Dude has a championship ring to throw in Harden and Howard's face and they better listen if they're serious about winning. How would things get worse? Harden is a great off-ball player, he and Rondo would compliment each other well as long as Harden buys into a new offense that doesn't give him the ball every damn time he wants it. Yes, Rondo can't spread the floor, but he can facilitate our offense and set guys up for easy baskets. Look at Miami's big 3, Chris Bosh sacrifice his offense to allow LBJ and Wade to dominate the ball. If Rondo comes here, the question is who of Harden and Howard becomes our Chris Bosh cause I'm leaving the ball in the real point guard's hand.

Are you sure Rondo will listen to Harden. He did not even listen to Doc. Rivers.

I thought everyone here was convinced Harden needs the ball in his hands. Now you're trying to find ways to get it out of his hands. Had enough of Harden iso?

Anyways, Harden is not listening to Rondo. The only point guard in the league who can get the ball out of his hands is probably Chris Paul.

Lin is NOT going to net you Rondo, if that was the case, there would be no reason to trade Lin. Rondo's salary is 12mil, you're going to have to throw in another 1-2 players to make it work plus at least one 1st rounder and some cash for Lin's ballon payment in the last year. Whether Lin goes or not, I really hope Rondo is in Morey's trade plan.

but at what cost? do we risk losing out on a solid 4 player, or lose out on bass or someone else? Is a PG the most dying need right now for us? I honestly think we need a big guy like asik that can play a backup 5 or run the 4 at times if need be. I think thats more important, than getting a new PG as much as i'd like to see lin traded.

aright, I let myself get dragged in to this

    1) The source is crap, but he is probably right that Morey is fielding offers to see what he can get on Lin (most posters here could tell you that). NOT because of the $15 mil he's owed next - the only person that affects is Les - but because there's a good chance we won't/can't resign him after '14-'15
-either because he wants more money than we'd be willing to pay
-or because he wants a guaranteed starter's role

Morey would rather sell high on him now than lose an asset for nothing. I can't remember the last time a player who made more than $3mil a year actually finished his contract in Houston and was allowed to walk.

    2) He won't trade Lin for scraps just to get his contract off the books. We have moved from "collecting assets" mode into "win-now" mode. It's a subtle change, but it means that because Lin provides scoring for our 2nd unit (without complaint), has improved his outside shot (efficiency is key in H-town), and plays well with Dwight Howard he is filling a need. Anyone we would trade Lin for would have to fill a need and be a contributor for a playoffs run - not just a trade asset for next season. If we can get someone who is both ie a contributor on an expiring/rookie deal or a bonafide All-Star ? Then yeah, Morey might pull the trigger.

    3) Rondo is a career 24% 3 PT shooter and that is plain scary. He relies on athleticism to get to the rim but this will be his 8th season, he's coming off knee surgery, and his body has a lot of mileage. If he comes back healthy, I have no doubt he can penetrate and kick out, but Dwight Howard can't shoot 15 ft jumpers like KG can (could*). And Dwight has enough problems posting up without having whoever's guarding Rondo double team him with impunity.

He said Harden will listen to Rondo, not the other way around. We know Rondo doesn't listen to anyone

If he's 12 mil, then you don't need anything. Lin's contract is 8.3mil cap space. 1.5x of 8.3 is over 12 mil

I'm not entirely sold on McHale as being a guy that coaches to the players' strengths.

are you serious? or some sort of Lin homer masquerading as an uber LOH? Lin straight up for Rondo? Does Boston get a free t shirt in the trade as well? Assuming you are serious, this straight up trade would only happen if we add in at least 2 decent draft picks.

Rondo's making 11-12 mil and on contract til 2015. And yeah he's way better than Lin. Boston's also not hurting for PG's that they need to flip him - Crawford's been ballin out of his mind. Nobody knows if they're still trying to tank anyway. Personally I think if they wanted to tank, they shouldn't have hired Brad Stevens

I'm in the minority but I don't see how Rondo makes the Rockets better. He'd be another ball dominant guard next to Harden, which why Lin got benched. Unlike Lin, he's totally useless off ball - the guy shoots 20% beyond the arc. Can't make free throws either. Better defender so I guess he'd compensate on that end but you don't pick up Rondo unless you're gonna let him pound the ball the entire shot clock.
